The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has a temptress of a nose, with open, welcoming red cherry, crushed strawberry and subtle mineral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin. There is plenty of tightly knitted fruit here, and a patina of oak that is still to be assimilated, but also wonderful detail and subtlety on the sublime, sophisticated finish. This has enormous potential. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 10 closure)Inc. TAX€577.68 -

The 2015 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, which includes 40% stems, has a gorgeous, engaging bouquet with a conspicuous oyster shell/marine influence running through the crystalline red berry fruit. There is outstanding aromatics, tension and energy here. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, harmonious and candied with finer tannin than the Mazoyères-Chambertin that one used to find with Bertrand Maume's wines, blessed with superb salinity and precision on the finish. This is a brilliant wine from Domaine Tawse, probably the best that has been made under the new ownership.Inc. TAX€325.88 -

(40% vendange entier; 50% new oak; this wine was not made in 2016 owing to the frost): Bright, dark red. Terrific crushed-rock lift to the red berry and floral aromas. Bright ruby-red. Black raspberry, licorice and dark chocolate on the slightly reduced nose, with a spicy quality emerging with air. Wonderfully plush, concentrated and velvety, conveying a spherical impression of volume that has something in common with the Saint-Georges. The black cherry flavor is complicated by hints of earth and flowers and enlivened by saline minerality. This edge-free wine maintains its freshness on the back end, finishing with fine, dusty, building tannins and lovely perfume. At this point in our tasting, Liger-Belair noted that in some vineyards in 2016, he lost 40% of his grapes to frost and another 20% to galloping mildew, noting that he was late on one vineyard treatment and spent the following weeks in reaction mode.Inc. The 2015 Corton Grand Cru has a modest nose following the pair of excellent Aloxe-Corton Premier Crus. The small proportion of whole bunch lends a little forest floor to the mix of broody dark fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin. There is a keen thread of acidity here although it tightens up towards the finish, slams the door shut (for now). Interestingly this is aromatically quite similar to the nose of the Latricières though there is just a bit more wood in evidence plus a hint of menthol. By contrast there is more size, weight, power and muscle to the big-bodied and equally mineral-driven flavors that also brim with copious amounts of dry extract that coats the palate and buffers the very firm but not hard tannic backbone on the driving, hugely long and youthfully austere finale. This is an exquisitely poised Chambertin that is very much built-to-age and is going to need a minimum of 10 years and once again, is a wine that should last for decades. In a word, brilliant.Inc. The 2015 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru has a flipping gorgeous bouquet with perfumed black cherries and blueberry fruit intermingling with subtle undergrowth and woodland aromas. It has razor-sharp precision and superb focus. The palate is medium-bodied with very crisp tannin. There is impressive precision in situ, a beguiling sense of energy percolation through the red berry fruit, merging with more black fruit towards the finish. A discreet but not invisible dose of wood does not detract from the purity of the elegant and airy array of red currant, rose petal, lavender and forest floor scents. There is first-rate tension and delineation to the more obviously mineral-driven middle weight flavors that culminate in a firm, linear and driving finish. The 2015 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a refined bouquet of pretty, slightly tertiary red berry fruit laced with subtle oyster shell scents. Bright medium red. Slightly wild but lively aromas of raspberry, leather and roast coffee. Moderately saturated medium red. Deep aromas of plum, raspberry and flinty, smoky minerality; one senses rocks here. Suppler and sweeter than the basic village Gevrey, but still with a bit of reserve to its plum, smoke and game flavors. This is silky and ripe--even a bit plump--but avoids coming off as heavy owing to its nicely integrated acidity. Not a high-pitched wine but a lovely soil expression.Inc. TAX€684.97 -

In a word, brilliant. In Bond€3,435.00 -

It actually bears similarities to Domaine Dugat's Chapelle Chambertin this year, both exuding terroir expression and joie-de-vivre. This is superb. In Bond€2,436.00 -
(12x75cl) 2015Burghound (90-93)
A discreet but not invisible dose of wood does not detract from the purity of the elegant and airy array of red currant, rose petal, lavender and forest floor scents. There is first-rate tension and delineation to the more obviously mineral-driven middle weight flavors that culminate in a firm, linear and driving finish. This is a classy Petite Chapelle that is built-to-age and will need at least 7 to 8 and should amply repay 12 to 15.In Bond€1,545.00 -

Bright medium red. A bit riper and more chocolatey than the Marsannay on the nose. Then dense and sweet but tighter on the palate, with currant and spice flavors conveying an element of chocolate/mocha torrefaction. More imploded than the Marsannay and in need of a couple years in bottle to fill in.In Bond€1,220.00 -

The 2015 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a refined bouquet of pretty, slightly tertiary red berry fruit laced with subtle oyster shell scents. The fresh, vibrant, medium-bodied palate presents fine-grained tannin, crisp acidity and a succinct, mineral-driven, detailed finish that does this grand cru proud. Bon vin! (12x75cl) 2015Vinous (89)
Bright medium red. Slightly wild but lively aromas of raspberry, leather and roast coffee. Dense in the style of the vintage, but with its impression of sucrosité nicely buffered by harmonious acidity. Finishes juicy and persistent, with dusty tannins and lingering notes of game and leather to add interest to the raspberry fruit. In Bond€651.00 -
(6x75cl) 2015Vinous (90)
Moderately saturated medium red. Deep aromas of plum, raspberry and flinty, smoky minerality; one senses rocks here. Suppler and sweeter than the basic village Gevrey, but still with a bit of reserve to its plum, smoke and game flavors. This is silky and ripe--even a bit plump--but avoids coming off as heavy owing to its nicely integrated acidity. Not a high-pitched wine but a lovely soil expression. In Bond€551.00 -

We found the wines in 2015 very easy and forward to taste, with as much focus on freshness as concentration, so there wasn’t a complete break from the 2014s in that sense. The hope is that as the wines mature they will continue to show the balance and classicism they displayed from the barrel. Our expectation is that they will do so and the best wines will live for a very long time with a genuinely satisfying pattern of maturation throughout their life.
