Jadot's 2015 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is stunningly good in the 2015 vintage, bursting from the glass with a primary bouquet of candied red cherry, plum, rose petal, coniferous forest floor and a hint of the black truffle to come, judiciously framed by new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and deep, with wonderful concentration and depth, its generous core of ripe fruit underpinned by bright, racy acids. This still need time to come together—15 years, ideally—but its potential is immense.Inc. TAX€2,392.76 -

The 2015 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has an open red cherry, crushed strawberry and sea spray-scented bouquet that perhaps does not quite have the complexity, nor the intrigue of the Mazis-Chambertin at this stage. The salinity comes through on the finish and lends this grand cru fine sappiness, urging you back for another sip. For those with patience...Inc. TAX€1,327.68 -

Tasted blind, Jadot's 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques confirmed the seriousness it displayed earlier this year, unwinding with aeration to reveal a youthfully reserved bouquet of sweet red fruits, raw cocoa, rich soil and dried rose petal, framed by a judicious application of cedary new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, reserved and concentrated, with fine-grained but firm structuring tannins, tangy acids and impressive length. This Clos Saint-Jacques is shutting down, so it's all about future potential, but its showing in this tasting suggested that when all is said and done, it may well be the Clos Saint-Jacques of the vintage.Inc. The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru en Montceau displayed an energetic, generous bouquet that perhaps did not quite possess the killer delineation of the En Remilly by comparison. The palate is very well balanced and shows more sophistication than the aromatics at this early stage, very well-integrated new oak, walnut and white pepper notes permeating through the citrus fruit with great depth and body towards the finish. There is a lot of potential here, but it will need a couple of years after bottling for the aromatics to coalesce.Inc. TAX€279.44 -

The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Le Charmois was aged in 20% new oak without any foudres. It has a slightly more involving bouquet compared to the Saint Aubin La Combe, with notes of green apple, sea spray, something saline and perhaps even a distant tang of kelp. The palate is very well balanced with a fine thread of acidity. Focused and beautifully poised, it leaves it to the last moment to fan out and deliver the concentration that the growing season bestowed. The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiets was showing very well from bottle, wafting from the glass with notes of raspberry, cherry, spice and orange rind that offer little hint of the savory complexity to come with bottle age. Bright dark red. Very ripe but laid-back aromas of black cherry, licorice and mocha. Impressive dense and powerful but rather refined for Clos Vougeot, conveying a youthfully medicinal quality to its black cherry, dark berry and licorice flavors. This this classically dry, deep wine is less strict and severe than Clos Vougeot can often be, but it's still more Clos-Vougeot than 2015 in character. We found the wines in 2015 very easy and forward to taste, with as much focus on freshness as concentration, so there wasn’t a complete break from the 2014s in that sense. The hope is that as the wines mature they will continue to show the balance and classicism they displayed from the barrel. Our expectation is that they will do so and the best wines will live for a very long time with a genuinely satisfying pattern of maturation throughout their life.
