The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru is very pure and focused, featuring strawberry, raspberry, orange peel and blood orange aromas; a hint of black truffle emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm but fine tannins. Wonderfully focused, spicier and more savory than the 2018, leading into a long finish, this is a superb Richebourg, even if at the moment I would like to see more of its aristocratic origin.Inc. TAX€1,083.24 -
(1x75cl) 2020Tim Atkin MW (96)
Blackberries and black currants mesh with violets and sweet herbs on the nose. The palate turns a bit darker with fresh mushrooms and damp earth. There's even an exotic whiff of incense. There is terrific sap and energy here with lean, svelte tannins and racy acidity aplenty for longevity. This comes from 60- to 70-year-old vines in Les V roilles, positioned between DRC and Leroy. 2024-38Inc. TAX€3,274.28 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru has a beautifully-defined bouquet, dark berries with lots of undergrowth, light shaved black truffle aromas. The mineralité shines through here. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, crisp and quite linear for a Richebourg. Though not persistent as recent vintages, it maintains superb focus with a residual white pepper tinged aftertaste. Excellent.Inc. TAX€1,172.09 -

5 Star Wine. A brilliant purple, with a fascinating touch of spice to add to the depth of dark yet royal fruit. Just keeps getting more profound on the nose. Incredibly intense through the middle, excellent mineral acidity behind, and a length well above the others. Thank you for this perfection.Inc. TAX€3,096.84 -
(6x75cl) 2023Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)
A lovely bright deep ruby, purple in the middle. The 2023 Richebourg starts exuberantly then refines with a greater sense of detail. The fruit swarms across the palate but not in an obstreperous way, with a sensuality to the raspberry that is hard to imagine. There is tannin present, and enough acidity but the fruit covers them both and extends to a remarkable finish. Super sensual and really finely balanced at the same time. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.Inc. TAX€6,241.43 -

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux, from vines planted back in 1903, has a beautifully-defined bouquet that unfurls in the glass, black plum and cranberry, touches of sea spray coming through with time. The palate is well balanced with fresh red fruit on the entry, lightly spiced, quite cohesive with a velvety finish. Lovely.Inc. TAX€234.68 -

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux offers dark berry fruit on the nose, a touch of wild thyme and hints of rosemary. The palate is smooth and caressing, fine tannins, redcurrant and wild strawberry with a dab of black pepper on the finish. One of the more successful wines from the Domaine - a treat. Four barrels produced.Inc. TAX€196.75 -

The 2021 Beaune Les Boucherottes 1er Cru was completely de-stemmed as the vines naturally produce acidity. The malo had not finished on this cuvée but there appears to be fine concentration on the nose considering the vintage. The palate is sweet, slightly candied on the entry with blood orange and tangerine infusing the red fruit. Ripe and energetic on the simple yet effective finish. Fine.Inc. TAX€551.27 -

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a simple redcurrant and cranberry scented bouquet that just needs a little more flesh. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins. This does not really have the roundness of a Chambolle and just feels abrupt on the finish. Maybe just enduring a difficult phase?Inc. TAX€685.03 -

Burghound (91-93)
Here the wood treatment is notably more discreet if not completely imperceptible as it allows the spice mélange of red and black pinot fruit, plum, earth and sandalwood hints to be easily appreciated. There is fine volume and density to the velvety, mouth coating and seductively textured flavors that possess so much dry extract on the balanced finish that this could easily be enjoyed now though note well that there is plenty of development potential. This is really quite good.Inc. TAX€3,484.54 -
(6x75cl) 2017Vinous (92-94)
The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru comes from vines over 90 years old and is matured entirely in new oak. It has a very pure, seductive bouquet of black cherry and raspberry fruit infused with pressed iris and hints of India ink. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and gentle grip, stiffening a little toward the finish, which just needs a little more flesh to come through. Afford this five years in bottle if possible, because it shows fine balance.Inc. TAX€2,800.38 -
(6x75cl) 2018Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a broody bouquet with dark berry fruit laced with black tea and touches of leather. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, almost "chunky" tannins. This is not a graceful Echézeaux but there is plenty of substance with a judicious touch of spice on the finish. Fine, but give it time.Inc. TAX€3,028.38 -

The 2018 Pommard Les Chanlins 1er Cru offers brambly black fruit on the nose, a little more tertiary in style compared to Gros’s other cuvées. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins on the entry. Good grip here, quite sappy in style even if it just misses some finesse and detail on the finish. Not bad, but I would give this 3-4 years in bottle.Inc. TAX€598.38 -
(6x75cl) 2015Vinous (91)
The 2015 Pommard Les Pezerolles 1er Cru has a clean, precise bouquet, understated and classic in style, offering lovely pressed flower scents that evolve with aeration. The stylish, refined palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, seamlessly integrated oak and a persistent, mocha-tinged finish. Excellent, but like other Pommards it will require several years in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.Inc. TAX€818.46
