Vinous (92-95)
Full red-ruby color. Captivating aromas of blueberry, dried flowers, brown spices, smoke and flint. Big, rich and deep, with serious volume as well as outstanding penetration and verve to its flavors of cassis, black cherry, smoke, minerals and wild herbs. An impressive spine of acids and tannins gives this grand cru a serious structure for extended bottle aging. 92-95.Inc. TAX€303.55 -
(1x75cl) 2010Vinous (92-95)
Bright deep red. Knockout perfume of sexy brown spices and rose petal. Sappy but youthfully imploded, with the powerful brown spice character carrying through on the palate. Boasts uncanny sweetness and purity, not to mention inner-mouth lift and saline complexity, but this wine will require several years of cellaring. Most impressive today on the building, palate-staining pepper-and-spice finish.Inc. TAX€326.22 -

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (92-95)
Deep red-ruby. Cherry liqueur, crushed rock, exotic spices and a lightly medicinal quality on the nose. Dense, velvety and sweet, with terrific vinosity and underlying spine intensifying the black cherry and dark berry flavors. Quite sweet on the back end, with the substantial tannins arriving late. This wine includes fruit from five different sources and very different sites, according to Potel. Splendid potential.Inc. TAX€2,072.77 -

Vinous (92-94)
Good deep red-ruby. Mocha, spices and earth on the nose, with suggestions of very ripe fruit; lower-toned than the Clos Saint-Denis. Round, layered and broad in the mouth, showing impressive volume leavened by a strong cardamom spiciness. Can't match the Clos Saint-Denis today for lift but this sexy wine is still a baby. Tannins are thoroughly buffered by mid-palate stuffing.Inc. TAX€443.48 -

Vinous (89-92)
Healthy dark red. Very ripe, soil-inflected aromas of raspberry, smoked meat, underbrush and spicy oak. In a distinctly savory style, showing good energy and peppery lift to its raspberry, redcurrant and earth flavors. Not particularly sweet but nicely delineated and alive. The wine's appeal, however, was slightly reduced by a strong oak element and some dusty wood tannins on the back end.Inc. TAX€131.82 -

Vinous (92-95)
Good bright, deep red. Red berries and licorice on the nose, lifted by pungent minerality. Sharply delineated and brisk in the mouth; tighter than the other Gevrey premier crus here but with terrific dimension and inner-mouth tension. Most impressive today on the rising, perfumed back end, which leaves the taste buds quivering. This beauty is downright 2010-like in its detail and perfume.Inc. TAX€160.75 -

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has a vibrant bouquet of expressive blueberry and raspberry fruit laced with sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, well-judged acidity and a very harmonious finish that lingers. One of the best village crus from the range.Inc. TAX€474.29 -

Barrel sample. Greyish deep crimson. Like the Échezeaux, this smells of luxury but here it is darker and a little more oaky on the nose, very dark fruit profile. On the palate, dark, dense and savoury, a little charry, peppery, spiced, but the tannins are unexpectedly fine and supple even if the oak has thickened them slightly. Long, savoury aftertaste. Needs a lot of time.Inc. TAX€1,471.68 -

Cask sample. Intense, classy nose with real voluptuousness. Polished tannins are there in abundance with really bright fruit in great balance. This should beguile right through its (presumably long) life. Glossy fruit and fine, very ripe tannins. Good freshness and length.Inc. TAX€2,492.26 -

Barrel sample. Deep crimson. Intense, dark fruit that puts the oak into the background. Terrific intensity on the palate, dark, savoury, charry but not at all over-oaked. Elegant tannins, extremely fine and deliciously dry. Immense length and refinement.Inc. TAX€1,542.84 -

Cask sample. Deep crimson. Sample is showing very slight signs of tiredness which I will try to ignore. But the wine doesn’t seem to have quite the energy and conviction of the Richebourg. Maybe it’s a sample thing? But there’s just a slight rawness here as well as the density and energy.Inc. TAX€1,416.84 -
