Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from vines over 50 years old from three lieux-dits. Tightly knit on the nose, this adds just a soupçon of blue fruit to the bouquet that's a little floral with admirable vigor. Just a hint of kirsch emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip on the entry. This is a solid Chambolle-Musigny, though the finish should be tighter with more flow. It's just a bit static at the moment. Give this a couple of years in bottle. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru, which includes 40% whole cluster, was quite backward on the nose, a bit broody and refusing to come out ‘n play. The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated oak, quite chalky in texture, very good tension with a linear and energetic finish. Discrete, yet it should blossom with bottle age. Watch this. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (92-94)The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru comes from three parcels and includes 25% whole bunch. This has a classy bouquet with touches of freshly-rolled tobacco and graphite infusing the dark berry fruit, as hints of iris flower surface over time and remain subtle throughout. There is wonderful definition here. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh with disarming purity on the entry, slightly chalky tannins and a little confit fruit toward the finish. Stylish and suave, this is very seductive but there is structure and substance to suggest it will age well in bottle. Excellent. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras, which contains 50% whole cluster, has quite a tertiary, spicy nose, a touch of meat juice filtering through the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly austere tannins that render this quite Morey-like in style, but still fresh and very focused on the finish. Excellent. |

Burghound (91-93)(from the villages portion of the vineyard). A more elegant, more floral and more expressive nose freely offers up its mostly cool red cherry, spice and a similar hint of crushed anise. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is positively gorgeous, even silky, with an almost pungent minerality adding a sense of lift to the long, balanced and youthfully austere finale. This is a stunningly good Chambolle villages that would make many a premier cru blush - highly recommended. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)One third their own vines in Les Plateaux, two thirds purchases from Longecourts. More ruby than purple, with a classic Nuits-St-Georges profile on the nose, a little plum alongside the red fruit. Vinous (88)Moderately saturated medium red. Subdued aromas of red berries, mocha and spicy oak are lifted by a floral quality. Not especially fleshy or sweet but more penetrating than the Clos Saint-Marc, showing good floral lift and more flavor interest. Turns a bit lean and herbal on the back end, though, finishing with slightly dry, dusty tannins and a note of menthol. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Barrières comes from a single 0.70-hectare parcel in the north of the appellation. It doesn't quite click into gear on the nose like the wonderful 2022, rather it is perhaps more discrete with loamy scents percolating through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a firm grip. Fine tannins and a conspicuous, almost briny marine influence develop toward the finish, lending another dimension. It coheres nicely in the glass and it should give 12 to 15 years' drinking pleasure. |

Wine Advocate (92)Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos Saint-Marc has a complex, quite arresting bouquet with finely tuned dark cherry and raspberry fruit, hints of incense of pressed flowers developing with time. I adore the precision of these aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, notes of blackberry and raspberry preserves, a keen line of acidity and a pleasant touch of bitterness toward the long finish. This is another delightful, beautifully sculpted wine from Rion. Tasted September 2017. |

The fruit here is a little redder on the nose, showing touches of bay leaf and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with insistent grip on the entry. Vinous - Neal Martin (90)The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos Saint-Marc 1er Cru feels a little gawky at first and takes time to coalesce in the glass. More whole bunch here, though it is in proportion to the fruit concentration. It never really develops in the glass. The palate is coarse on the entry, rigid with bitter red fruit. It just needs more flesh on the finish, which has a slightly acrid note. Not sure about this but instinct tells me that it just requires time to knit together. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |
