Wine Advocate (88-90)Produced from purchased fruit and vinified with one-third whole clusters, the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes (négoce) bursts with aromas of raspberries, berries, woodsmoke and sweet soil tones. It's medium to full-bodied, succulent and fine-boned, with a delicate core of fruit framed by powdery tannins. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from two terrors and is an acquisition of fruit. The nose is quite backward at first and does not quite slip into fifth gear. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet red cherry and strawberry entry, fine acidity, quite fleshy as you would hope from a Chambolle with the 30% whole bunch imparting a welcome spiciness on the finish. Very fine. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2011 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru was raised entirely in new oak. It is aromatically not a million miles away from the Aux Combotte 11 tightly wound and a little timid on the nose at first and demands coaxing. It reluctantly reveals quite intense wet limestone scents that dominate over the red and black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine grip on the entry with the oak lending it a smooth veneer. Harmonious and focused, it glides to quite a sinewy finish that needs a couple of years to fully integrate the wood. Very fine. Drink 2016-2028. |

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2013 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from the Mazoyères sector, has a very well-defined and quite intense bouquet with live-wire red cherry and strawberry preserve underpinned by zingy citrus fruits. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and plenty of sorbet-fresh red fruit that build toward a composed but energetic finish. No, not quite as thrilling as the 2012 tasted alongside, but surely one of the finest examples of this vineyard. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru includes 20% whole bunches, matured in one-third new oak. It has a gorgeous bouquet of cranberry and raspberry fruit with veins of cassis; later, brown spices emerge. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, good depth and fine grip, perhaps just missing a little precision toward the finish but still very fine. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from the Mazoyères side. It has a very attractive bouquet of black cherries, wild strawberry, cola and touches of brown spices. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, the 30% whole bunch lending a subtle earthiness on the midpalate, although I would like a little more substance to show on the finish. Enjoy this over the next 15 years. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)In the Mazoyères section. Generous deep, exuberant purple. Heady deep raspberry notes, flamboyant and enticing, peonies too. Very Charmes in its upfront energy but with a bit of Mazoyères minerality behind. The fruit stretches out very nicely to the back of the mouth. |

Burghound (92-94)Here too a discreet application of wood is present on the equally cool, wonderfully pure and exceptionally pretty aromas of essence of red currant, violet, lavender and a hint of earthiness. There is both excellent volume and mid-palate density to the intense and sleek mouthfeel that is again thanks to the polished tannins supporting the focused and sneaky long finish. As is often the case with the Lignier Charmes, it is a combination of power and finesse. |

Vinous (97)The 2002 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru was one on the highlights of the Lignier vertical. Glossy red cherries and kirsch, hints of blueberry on the nose lifted by just a touch of VA, but that disappears with aeration. The palate is framed by very fine tannins, superb acidity and a vibrant, shimmering finish that is lightly spiced with clove and white pepper. Superb transparency here, a brilliant 2002 just flexing its muscles. |

Wine Advocate (97-99)The 2016 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is matured in 30% new oak with up to 30% whole cluster fruit, two-thirds from Montluisants and one-third Fremiers. It has an intoxicating bouquet that is extraordinarily complex: shimmering red berry fruit, blood orange, incense and a touch of crushed violet. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, wonderful depth and harmony, laser-like focus toward the finish that lingers in the mouth. Stunning mineralité here—the tongue feels as if it licked limestone 30 second after the wine has disappeared. If there is a better Clos de la Roche then I have not tasted it (yet). |

Vinous (97)The 2018 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is beguiling and pure on the nose with perfumed red cherries, raspberry and cranberry - blossoming with aeration. The palate is everything that you really wish for in a Clos de la Roche: impressive structure, multi-layered red fruit, mineralité that belies the warmth of the summer and a compelling fresh and sapid finish that urges you back to the glass. What a brilliant wine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. |

Vinous (96-98)The 2019 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru comes from the two terroirs, the majority from Mont Luisants and one-third from Fremières. The vines were planted in the Sixties and the late Fifties respectively. It has a beautifully defined bouquet with black cherries, raspberry, briary and rose petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, concentrated as you would expect since it was cropped at around 25hl/ha with wonderful minerality on the finish. Outstanding. |

Wine Advocate (95-97)Aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, forest floor, spices and plums introduce the 2020 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, a full-bodied, layered and multidimensional wine that's deep and concentrated, with lively acids, ripe tannins and a long, saline finish. Still primary after a year's élevage, it's built to age. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (92+)The 2021 Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru has a bright and lively bouquet, carefree and well defined, with effervescent Morello cherry and white-tipped strawberry aromas. The palate is framed by lithe tannins and a silver bead of acidity, balanced yet missing the x-factor shown by the best Clos de la Roche this vintage. Straightlaced on the finish, it does not stick in the memory as it should. Not bad by any means, but I think this just suffered from inadequate time to aerate. I am sure another bottle in a few years would tally with my barrel projection. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |
