Wine Advocate (97+)
Tasted blind, Roumier's 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is quite reticent, unfurling in the glass with a youthfully reserved bouquet of cherries, cassis, dark chocolate, peonies and espresso roast. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and powerful, with a strikingly concentrated and multidimensional core, an ample endowment of rich, satiny tannin and a long, chewy finish. This is a ripe but structural wine that will demand—and reward—considerable patience: it's likely to prove one of the most long-lived red Burgundies of the vintage.Inc. TAX€7,997.64 -

Dark crimson. Juicy and alluring on the nose. And then wonderfully rich and exciting on the palate. Great intensity and majesty. Woo hoo! Long and gorgeous.Inc. TAX€1,618.28 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)
The 2017 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru was showing quite a lot of reduction on the nose when I visited (Christophe Roumier was taken aback, as it had been racked three weeks earlier). Fortunately, the palate shows great potential; it’s as beautifully balanced as ever, with a fine bead of acidity. This is more understated and less outgoing than other vintages encountered from barrel, and not quite as persistent on the finish, but with a fine dash of black pepper on the aftertaste. There is something very assured about this Bonnes-Mares, though this year, it is Les Amoureuses that sends tingles down the spine.Inc. TAX€1,348.28 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-100)
All three cuvées, white soil, red soil and the new plot, have been blended. Overall two-thirds of the blend comes from white soil Bonnes Mares. Two thirds whole bunch, one third new wood. Glowing rich purple, with a beautiful bouquet demonstrating exquisitely balanced fruit. Ripe of course but there are some red threads in with the darker fruit, fine acidity too, just a sumptuous covering of exquisite dark raspberry and a little touch of blackberry. Bravo! There is a lovely covering of flesh on top of natural vivacity.Inc. TAX€44,594.77 -

Beginning with the hugely deep but very fresh purple colour, The Roumier 2019 Bonnes Mares shows its majesty from the outset. The nose is backward, but clear and pure. It is much more in pure deep raspberry and less wild on the nose than it can be. Such harmony on the palate, this is exquisite, a very noble Bonnes Mares with optimum purity and one of the most persistent finishes of the year. Brilliant!Inc. TAX€50,954.42 -

Rich purple, with energy on the nose, more black fruit, a little less easy to read than the flamboyant Ruchottes. Two thirds whole bunch just visible. Showing the duality of this vineyard. More black than red, nothing in any way cooked, deep long and sultry, some comparison with Bussière but a much greater depth of generous fruity and of course very long indeed. Going to be spectacular I think. A really classic structure with a brilliant aftertaste. Tasted: November 2021Inc. TAX€1,570.28 -

The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is impressively concentrated and multidimensional, unwinding in the glass with a deep bouquet of cherries, raspberries, Indian spices, coniferous forest floor, violets and orange zest. Full-bodied, layered and textural, with a layered core of fruit, fine but abundant tannins and a long, saturating finish, it transcends stereotypes of this challenging vintage.Inc. TAX€1,348.28 -

(5-Star) An intense mid purple, the bouquet just made me burst into smiles at first sniff. This wine is always too multi-faceted to admit of simple fruit descriptors. There are quite a few berries in the bowl. Some fresh red fruit then much darer notes, I turn lightened up by the peppery notes to finish. This really kicks on magically behind! 75-80 whole bunch vinification. Drink from 2035.Inc. TAX€1,420.28 -
(3x75cl) 2012Vinous (87-88)
The 2012 Bourgogne is quite lovely. Extroverted and dense at this level, with gorgeous red berry character and plenty of nuance, the 2012 is translucent, deep and beautifully layered throughout. This is a wonderfully detailed Bourgogne to drink now and over the next few years.Inc. TAX€1,128.37 -
(6x75cl) 2017Vinous (87-89)
The 2017 Bourgogne Pinot Noir offers crunchy blackberry and raspberry fruit on the fresh, well-defined nose. The nicely defined palate is light and breezy, offering black currant pastilles and strawberry and a simple finish. A perfect introduction to Roumier's wines.Inc. TAX€2,486.95 -
(6x75cl) 2018Vinous (85-87)
The 2018 Bourgogne Pinot Noir, which is completely de-stemmed, offers pretty blueberry and raspberry fruit on the refined nose – pretty and playful. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins. There is a sharpness here, and a citric finish. Fine.Inc. TAX€2,309.77 -
Vinous (86-88)
The 2019 Bourgogne Pinot Noir, totally destemmed, has a very pure bouquet of blackberry and bilberry scents, harmonious and delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black currant fruit, almost pastille-like in purity. Quite saline on the finish. This is a perfect and hopefully affordable introduction to Christophe Roumier’s winemaking skills.Inc. TAX€311.33 -
Vinous (84-86)
The 2021 Bourgogne Pinot Noir is the only cuvée to be de-stemmed this year. It has a light and airy nose, fleeting red berry fruit with crushed stone scents. The palate is in a similar style, light and airy, though it attenuates slightly towards the finish. An early-drinking Bourgogne Rouge from Roumier.Inc. TAX€302.76 -

Medium red. Very ripe nose shows an almost candied character to the red berry notes. Suppler and sweeter than the village Chambolle but with less grip and vivacity. Ultimately a bit jammy and lacking in energy. Finishes with firm, slightly dry tannins.Inc. TAX€3,974.26 -
(1x75cl) 2011Vinous (91)
Savory herbs, mint, dried flowers and sweet red berries are all woven together in the 2011 Chambolle-Musigny Les Combottes. The combination of expressive fruit and the more savory notes typical of the vintage are highly intriguing. In that sense, the Combottes is a representative 2011.Inc. TAX€1,420.75 -
(1x75cl) 2012Vinous (92-94)
Roumier's 2012 Chambolle-Musigny Combottes Les Combottes is pure silk on the palate. Rose petals, sweet red berries and cinnamon all flesh out in a supple, drop-dead gorgeous Chambolle. Here the flavors are all woven together in a fabric of exceptional elegance and pure polish. What a gorgeous, aromatically lifted Burgundy this is.Inc. TAX€1,420.75 -
(1x75cl) 2013Vinous (90+)
Black cherry aroma accented by pepper and spices. Supple and rich in the mouth, with a sappy peppery element leavening the wine's flesh. A distinctly rich style of Combottes, finishing with ripe, building tannins and excellent length. Roumier normally finds this cuvée less mineral than normal for Chambolle, and sometimes even heavy. But the vines clearly did well in the cool 2013 growing season.Inc. TAX€1,069.73 -
(1x75cl) 2014Vinous (90+)
Good dark red. Slightly high-toned aromas of red licorice, menthol and spices, showing more red than black fruits. Much more reserved on the palate than the Clos de la Bussière, conveying strong spice character and less easy sweetness. This youthfully medicinal, fairly tannic wine finishes with excellent saline persistence.Inc. TAX€1,129.15 -
Wine Advocate (93)
The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Combottes contains around 40% whole bunch this year. It has a very refined bouquet with dark, almost broody black fruit, a touch of cold granite and graphite, austere and yet blessed with exquisite delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with sorbet-like freshness on the entry, here more blue fruit than the Clos de la Bussière with an elegant, poised finish. The word that sprung to mind? Balletic.Inc. TAX€11,853.66 -

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Combottes 1er Cru has a very pure, floral bouquet of mainly dark berry fruit tinctured with subtle hints of pressed iris and incense. Undergrowth scents emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a crunchy blackberry and raspberry opening, very natural and refined. Not a powerful Les Combottes, but focused on the finish. I would just like a bit more oomph once in bottle.Inc. TAX€1,129.15 -
