Vinous (90-93)(the estate only lost 20% of its normal production here): Bright ruby-red. Deeper, riper yet somehow airy aromas of black raspberry, crushed rock and flowers. Suave, concentrated, fine-grained wine with sharply delineated flavors of raspberry, licorice and wild herbs. A very elegant, sappy, youthfully reticent Chambolle with fine-grained tannins and terrific persistence. And a step up in class from the preceding village wines. |

Wine Advocate (91-93+)Aromas of cherries, sweet wild berries, peonies, blood orange and sweet soil tones introduce the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes, a medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated wine with a textural attack that segues into a layered, vibrant mid-palate and finish. From a small parcel near Bonnes-Mares, this is routinely one of Lignier's finest premier cru bottlings, and the 2018 is no exception. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru has a lovely menthol-tinged bouquet, redcurrant and cranberry, light tertiary notes developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, white pepper and cumin. Lovely balance here, the new oak is well integrated. Just a pity, only two barrels were produced. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)The holding is in the angle at the northern end of the vineyard, where Laurent has had a nice little wall in dry stone built. Dark black colour with light purple rim. As ever, this is much more Morey than Chambolle. Rich deep dark fruit with its typical savoury edge, dark raspberry notes, a little plum, flavours which reach far to the back of the palate. Succulent and savoury together and very persistent. 13.25% alcohol. Tasted: November 2021 |

Wine Advocate (89-91)The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Bussières includes a small proportion of whole bunch fruit. It has a harmonious bouquet with red cherries and pomegranate aromas. I appreciate the definition and precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp and crunchy red berry fruit, very natural in style, pure and tensile with a dash of spice on the finish. This should give ten years of pleasure, possibly more. |

Vinous (88-90)The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny is soft, racy and succulent from start to finish. Sweet red berries, plums, spices, mint and raspberries all flesh out in the glass. The style is racy, supple and perfumed throughout. The tannins are a bit firm, but another few years in bottle should do the trick. This is a gorgeous wine from Lignier. |

Wine Advocate (88-90)Produced from purchased fruit and vinified with one-third whole clusters, the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes (négoce) bursts with aromas of raspberries, berries, woodsmoke and sweet soil tones. It's medium to full-bodied, succulent and fine-boned, with a delicate core of fruit framed by powdery tannins. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from two terrors and is an acquisition of fruit. The nose is quite backward at first and does not quite slip into fifth gear. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet red cherry and strawberry entry, fine acidity, quite fleshy as you would hope from a Chambolle with the 30% whole bunch imparting a welcome spiciness on the finish. Very fine. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2011 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru was raised entirely in new oak. It is aromatically not a million miles away from the Aux Combotte 11 tightly wound and a little timid on the nose at first and demands coaxing. It reluctantly reveals quite intense wet limestone scents that dominate over the red and black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine grip on the entry with the oak lending it a smooth veneer. Harmonious and focused, it glides to quite a sinewy finish that needs a couple of years to fully integrate the wood. Very fine. Drink 2016-2028. |

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2013 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from the Mazoyères sector, has a very well-defined and quite intense bouquet with live-wire red cherry and strawberry preserve underpinned by zingy citrus fruits. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and plenty of sorbet-fresh red fruit that build toward a composed but energetic finish. No, not quite as thrilling as the 2012 tasted alongside, but surely one of the finest examples of this vineyard. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru includes 20% whole bunches, matured in one-third new oak. It has a gorgeous bouquet of cranberry and raspberry fruit with veins of cassis; later, brown spices emerge. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, good depth and fine grip, perhaps just missing a little precision toward the finish but still very fine. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from the Mazoyères side. It has a very attractive bouquet of black cherries, wild strawberry, cola and touches of brown spices. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, the 30% whole bunch lending a subtle earthiness on the midpalate, although I would like a little more substance to show on the finish. Enjoy this over the next 15 years. |

Vinous (93-95)Situated in Mazoyères, the 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is well defined on the nose with precise black fruit laced with blueberry and light violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit laced with graphite, quite strict and linear with good grip on the finish. One of the more structured Charmes-Chambertins that you will find in this vintage. Just one barrel made in 2019. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)In the Mazoyères section. Generous deep, exuberant purple. Heady deep raspberry notes, flamboyant and enticing, peonies too. Burghound (92-94)Here too a discreet application of wood is present on the equally cool, wonderfully pure and exceptionally pretty aromas of essence of red currant, violet, lavender and a hint of earthiness. There is both excellent volume and mid-palate density to the intense and sleek mouthfeel that is again thanks to the polished tannins supporting the focused and sneaky long finish. As is often the case with the Lignier Charmes, it is a combination of power and finesse. |

Vinous (97)The 2002 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru was one on the highlights of the Lignier vertical. Glossy red cherries and kirsch, hints of blueberry on the nose lifted by just a touch of VA, but that disappears with aeration. The palate is framed by very fine tannins, superb acidity and a vibrant, shimmering finish that is lightly spiced with clove and white pepper. Superb transparency here, a brilliant 2002 just flexing its muscles. |
