Vinous (92+)
Medium red. Reticent but complex aromas of redcurrant, earth, mocha, iron, tobacco, underbrush and menthol. Suave and fine-grained, with highly nuanced flavors of redcurrant, leather, earth, game and mocha. Offers more volume and aging potential than the Lavaux, but this still-young wine is much less expressive today. Finishes sweet, supple and very long, with suave, fine tannins.Inc. TAX€349.15 -
Jancis Robinson (18+)
Vines planted in 1960. Destemmed whole berries with a light cold soak. Three weeks’ maceration in total. 35% new oak. Two months in stainless steel after 18 months in oak. Very heavy bottle... Mid crimson – not an eye-catching grand cru intensity of colour. Heady nose with the merest suggestion of decay. Masses of sweetness and still a bit of dusty tannin and introspection. There is so much here but it’s not quite ready for public display. Truly massive in scale – this wine is still a bit brutal. For the moment it’s a little dry on the end.Inc. TAX€880.72 -

Bright, dark red. Cool, highly nuanced aromas of raspberry, mint, coffee, licorice and crushed stone. Then lush, sweet and seamless in the mouth, maintaining the fresh but ripe impression. Wonderfully plush and utterly without rough edges, with flavors of red raspberry and cool minerality lifted by a seductive floral element. The 2016 Chambertin Grand Cru has a luscious and generous bouquet with plenty of raspberry preserve and crushed strawberry scents, seamlessly integrated oak and entrancing mineralité. Vinous (97)
The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru has quite a meaty nose, featuring plenty of brambly red fruit, desiccated orange peel and dried herbs. The palate is medium-bodied with a sorbet-fresh entry. This is a more zesty Chambertin, lively and even a little tart toward the finish. Does it convey the substance of this noble vineyard? I’m not convinced, and that is perhaps reflective of the vintage, yet after 15 minutes it seems to gain extra layers of complexity, and it's only then you realize that this is the real deal. The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru is more backward on the nose than Rossignol-Trapet’s Chambertin tasting blind alongside, the fruit is high-toned and darker, whilst the oak is a little more prominent. It loses a bit of finesse and complexity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced, quite muscular in style with a flattering finish. The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru was one of a handful of crus out of sorts from barrel but now in bottle, I am happy to report that it is a completely different wine. It has a delectable bouquet with beautifully defined red berry fruit, wild hedgerow and wilted rose petal that unfolds so delicately in the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crunchy red fruit, crisp and saline. There is just a touch of soy in the background that lends it an almost Oriental finish. Vinous (88-91)
The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin is a soft-open knit wine with mid-weight structure and good overall persistence. This is the only wine in the range I tasted from tank. Dark red cherries, plums, smoke, licorice and menthol are all woven together beautifully in the 2012 Corton Clos du Roi. Full red-ruby. Captivating aromas of black raspberry, smoked meat and minerals. Tangy and deep, with distinctly wild, exhilarating flavors of fresh dark berries and game. Very rich, smooth, seamless wine with lovely volume and flesh. A real essence of 2005, finishing with perfectly integrated tannins and superb persistence to its tangy dark raspberry flavor. I liked this very much a year ago, but it's even better today. I also got the feeling that it's Croix's favorite wine of the vintage. In Bond€174.00 -
