Vinous (94-97)
Good medium red. Extravagantly complex nose combines raspberry, wild rose, crushed rock, clove, mocha and wild herbs. Wonderfully subtle, spherical and nuanced, communicating an almost 3-D texture to the flavors of red berries, spices, licorice, herbs and flowers. The wine's firm spine of tannins is utterly covered by lush, fleshy fruit today. The thick, slowly rising finish washes over the palate like a wave.Inc. TAX€1,531.68 -

The 2012 Chambertin Clos-de-Beze Grand Cru, which like the Chapelle-Chambertin is domaine-owned, has a more voluminous, multi-faceted bouquet with engaging incense and mineral notes infusing the beautifully defined black fruits. The palate is very well balanced on the entry with more tension and nervosite than the Chambertin, building effortlessly towards a quite regal, sophisticated finish whose mineralite lingers long in the mouth. Outstanding.Inc. TAX€2,167.68 -

Jadot's 2015 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is stunningly good in the 2015 vintage, bursting from the glass with a primary bouquet of candied red cherry, plum, rose petal, coniferous forest floor and a hint of the black truffle to come, judiciously framed by new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and deep, with wonderful concentration and depth, its generous core of ripe fruit underpinned by bright, racy acids. This still need time to come together—15 years, ideally—but its potential is immense.Inc. TAX€1,464.84 -

Tasted from bottle, the 2016 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing marvelously, unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of juicy cherries, cassis, blood orange, violets and rich spices, its framing of new oak already almost entirely integrated. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, multidimensional and utterly complete, with a bottomless core of cool, sappy fruit that entirely conceals its supple but abundant tannins. Immensely concentrated and strikingly structurally refined, this is a brilliant Clos de Bèze that's more classically balanced than the more overtly ripe 2015.Inc. TAX€1,088.77 -

Pretty pink purple with a lively but fine nose. The fruit starts discreetly but then here it comes, delivering a level of class not seen in any of the previous Jadot wines, good though they are. A fine crimson colour. The bouquet is immediately appealing showing a distinction not yet apparent in the Chapelle-Chambertin, though that will come. This is the more structured of the two, possibly even a little bit stern, but with a wealth of high-class fruit behind where the refinement begins to show. Drink from 2032-2040+. The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru showed more reduction on the nose compared to the Bonnes-Mares: brambly red fruit, Earl Grey, and light forest floor aromas blossom in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with plush tannins, velvety smooth with maraschino cherries, marmalade and touches of fresh fig. This is quite exotic towards the finish. By direct comparison, the aforementioned Grand Cru has a little more composure and restraint and perhaps handled the warmth of the growing season better. Still, it's a lovely Amoureuses.Inc. Medium red. Powerfully mineral aromas of dark berries, orange zest, floral oils and crushed stone. The palate offers great class and lift, showing superb definition to the flavors of red berries, minerals and botanical herbs. This razor-sharp Chambolle finishes with terrific rising perfume. Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-92)
Medium red, less bright than the Feusselottes. Reticent nose hints at crushed stone. Silky-sweet on entry, then surprisingly open-knit in the middle, with sweet berry and mineral flavors carrying nicely through a broad, fine-grained finish. Has the stuffing to support its smooth tannins. (My sample of the Chambolle-Musigny Baudes was locked up tight and in a dry phase; it will require revisiting next year in bottle.)Inc. TAX€596.14 -

Saturated deep red. Superripe yet sappy aromas of black and red fruits, crushed stone and smoky minerality. Then extremely suave and refined on the palate, and distinctly red in character, with dense strawberry, raspberry and crushed stone flavors nicely framed by harmonious acidity. Ripe but classically dry wine, finishing with lovely tangy floral lift, fine-grained tannins and terrific cut. This is Jadot's vinification, and it shows!Inc. TAX€837.66
