The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit mixed with blueberry, vanilla and a slither of marmalade. This is quite opulent but it remains nicely controlled with a long finish that is in the same style as Bernard Dugat’s Mazis. The palate is chewy on the entry with good depth, a little abrasive at the moment but there is a keen thread of acidity combined with good structure on the finish that suggests this should age nicely over the next two decades. It does not quite have the complexity or terroir expression of the Champans on the nose, a little stoic and distant. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit and fine acidity, plus a healthy sprinkling of white pepper and sage towards the persistent finish. The palate is supple and rounded on the entry, belying the structure that lies underneath. Yet there is fine grip on the finish and it lingers long and tenderly in the mouth.
