Still, the Drouhins only began combining the cuvées about ten years ago. This is a gorgeous Clos de Bèze with intense blackberry and black plum fruit, smoky minerality and salted chocolate. Tasted at the Chambolle Amoureuses vertical in London, the 2012 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses has such a vivid color that sets you up for the wonderful, effervescent bouquet. Virile was a word that sprung immediately to mind, laden with animated maraschino and wild strawberry scents that are infused with plenty of mineralité, perhaps more than the 2010. The palate is medium-bodied and extremely cohesive. There is an effortless quality suffusing this Chambolle-Musigny, a sense of purity and transparency, while its satin-like texture will totally win you over. This is a beautiful wine. The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Baudes was picked on September 16 and includes 15% whole cluster. It has a very perfumed bouquet, refined and elegant with hints of violet and blueberry tincturing the red cherry fruit. The palate is crisp on the entry, a little tighter and sharper than the nose was implying and perhaps I was expecting a little more substance on the finish.
