There is a whiff of post-bottling reduction that is just enough to push what appears to be ripe and clean fruit to the background. The finer and almost delicate middle weight flavors possess even more minerality on the lingering, balanced and ultra-pure finale. This is a Latricières of lace and grace yet the supporting tannins are fine but dense and should have no trouble seeing this through an extended aging curve.Inc. TAX€786.68 -

One of the high points of the range is the 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, a striking wine that exhibits scents of cassis, forest floor, wild berries, dark chocolate, warm spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping but also beautifully defined, with a bright spine of acidity, it's concentrated and penetrating.Inc. TAX€558.79 -

Deep ruby-red. Wild aromas of blackberry, game, mocha, violet and smoke, with a suggestion of roasted ripeness. Rich and stuffed with fruit but showing less early personality than the Chevrets, as the tannins are not yet integrated. With its youthful bitterness and firm mineral cut, this is almost painful today in the middle palate. Really explodes with aeration, though, finishing with vibrant, palate-saturating flavor and superb richness. This reminded me of a grand cru from the Cote de Nuits. Crop levels here and in the Chevrets were between 32 and 35 hectoliters per hectare in 2005. Boillot emphasizes that Volnay was the most successful Cote de Beaune village in 2005, as it was in the outstanding '99 vintage as well.Inc. TAX€182.35 -

The 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets displays pretty aromas of cassis and blackberries that mingle with wood smoke, spices, rich soil and dried flowers in a complex bouquet that's deftly framed by toasty new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with good concentration and depth and a fine-grained chassis of tannin.Inc. TAX€793.92 -

Invariably a highlight of the portfolio, Boillot's 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets derives from a low-yielding 60-are parcel of 55-year-old vines. Unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of wild berries, plums, raw cocoa and sweet soil tones, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, its concentrated core of vibrant fruit underlined by succulent acids and framed by chalky tannins. This is a brilliant wine that's worth a special effort to seek out.Inc. TAX€343.45 -

One of my favorite wines in the cellar is the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets, a lovely cuvée that wafts from the glass with notes of plums, rose petals, sweet berry fruit, raw cocoa and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, bright and lively, it's sapid and concentrated, with refined tannins and a long, saline finish.Inc. TAX€470.15 -

Even more intense purple than the Chevrets with a theme of intense brilliance and zest through the middle. The wood shows a bit at the moment though he has used less in his red wines this year. Will settle down. Just a touch soapy at the moment, but all the indications are of a grand vin. Sweet ripe cherries with a good thread of acidity. Tasted: 10/1/2021Inc. TAX€683.99 -

A darker crimson colour, and the fruit too has added a darker note. Black raspberries, a little fresher red fruit further back on the palate, concentrated, tannins present but ripe, fair length. Perhaps this could have been picked a couple of days earlier. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Oct 2024.Inc. TAX€781.43 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91-93)
Bright red-ruby. Rather brooding aromas of cassis, blackberry, smoke and licorice are pure and discreet. Surprisingly rich on entry, then lush and seamless in the middle, but with very good acidity framing and lifting the black fruit and game flavors. The powerful, rising finish features building tannins and a distinct thick-skinned character. The old vines in Boillot's parcel were strongly affected by millerandage, which largely explains this wine's extra measure of texture and concentration. Boillot noted that his 2011s generally have 3.8 to 4 grams per liter of acidity following the malos, which is quite healthy for the vintage.Inc. TAX€711.12 -
Vinous (91)
(from four different ages of vines ranging from 40 to 90 years old; Boillot's Santenots comes from younger vines): Full medium red. Brooding aromas of blueberry, blackberry and menthol; lots of tiny millerandé berries here. Silky and saline on the palate; deeper than the Santenots but showing less sex appeal and early juiciness to its flavors of dark berries, spices and menthol. But this is chewier and more concentrated and a bit more important on the finish.Inc. TAX€1,261.46 -
Vinous (91-93)
(from four parcels of vines between 40 and 60 years of age; fruit in the lower section of the vineyard was wiped out by the frost): Healthy medium red. Slightly reduced nose conveys and medicinal dark raspberry aroma. Then fine-grained and graceful in the mouth, conveying an impression of delicacy to the flavors of raspberry, currant and flowers. Finishes quite suave and long, with very refined tannins. The Boillots made just 10 barrels in place of a normal 30, 3 of them new.Inc. TAX€589.98 -
Vinous (93)
The 2017 Volnay Les Chevrets 1er Cru has an open-knit, well-defined bouquet of brambly red berry fruit and discreet wilted rose petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, quite grippy and a little drier than its peers, with a slightly bitter, granular finish. It meliorates in the glass and leaves a pleasant spicy aftertaste. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Inc. TAX€480.72 -

The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Chevrets is showing beautifully, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cherries, rose petals, cassis and violets. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with an ample chassis of powdery tannins, fine concentration and succulent acids. From a parcel of 58-year-old vines, this is a quintessentially elegant Volnay that should also drink well young.Inc. TAX€506.63 -
(6x75cl) 2019Vinous (91-93)
The 2019 Volnay Chevrets 1er Cru has a more backward nose compared to the Fremiets, darker fruit with a pastille-like quality. The palate is well balanced with sappy red berry fruit, fine acidity with that pastille leitmotif returning on the elegant and pure finish. This Volnay is refined and approachable, but I suspect it has the legs to give 15-20 years of drinking pleasure.Inc. TAX€843.18 -

An emperor would be pleased with the intensity of this purple robe. The fruit is the most concentrated to date, and picked at the perfect time. Heady, intense, perfectly judged raspberry. This is spectacular. Not over the top, ripe tannins, just the right point of acidity, and excellent persistence. Guillaume speaks of delicacy and I can see what he means despite the Boillot style which is too intense to be designated delicate. Tasted: 10/1/2021Inc. TAX€682.08 -

Vinous (90-92)
Bright, dark red. Reticent, rather wild aromas of dark cherry and underbrush. Energetic but backward; much tighter today than the village wine and more dominated by its structure. The wild quality carries through on the palate. Best today on the back end, where fine-grained tannins spread out to saturate the palate.Inc. TAX€1,193.06 -
Vinous (91-93)
(these vines are 25 to 50 years old; from whiter soil that typical yields a harder, more austere style of wine than the Chevrets): Medium red. More discreet and a bit more medicinal on the nose than the Chevrets. Juicy red berry flavors are lifted by spicy high notes but kept under wraps by salty minerality and a medicinal menthol aspect.. Boasts lovely lift and inner-mouth tension and finishes with very fine-grained tannins, but this very promising wine will require at least a few years of bottle aging to loosen up a bit.Inc. TAX€630.72 -
Vinous (92)
The 2017 Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet of rose petal, morello cherries and light sous-bois aromas. The palate is well balanced and lightly spiced, with fine delineation. The sour cherry finish has its bitterness under firm control. This should drink well over 10–15 years.Inc. TAX€433.92 -
