The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Porêts-Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a fine black currant and bilberry bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with quite robust tannins, not the most elegant NSG that you will find, although there is decent freshness and salinity. Give this 3–5 years to soften its edges.Inc. The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a complex, complete bouquet with dark berry fruit, touches of 5-spice and a hint of balsamic. Controlled opulence. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, nicely pitched acidity, harmonious with a slightly peppery, quite nuanced and persistent finish. One of the picks from Faiveley this year. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.Inc. TAX€783.83 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
The Les St Georges comes under the negociant label, Joseph Faiveley, as the produce of their own vines is mixed with two other sources, one of which is the Hospices de Nuits. A deep crimson colour. The bouquet is relatively luxurious, a super succulent ripe raspberry, with very good tension behind. This seems very young, but the abundant fruit and the structure are promising. The fruit on the palate is fresher than for the village Nuits. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: October 2023.Inc. TAX€1,172.14 -

The 2018 Beaune Champs Pimont 1er Cru is a new fermage for Felittig, courtesy of a 0.5-hectare parcel that was picked after the Chambolle-Musigny Village, and matured in 50% new oak. This comes across a little overpowering on the nose, although it does become more refined with aeration. Precocious blueberry, boysenberry and fig notes blossom in the glass. The palate is well balanced with fine definition and, being completely de-stemmed, has a silky sheen and very pure fruit. Blood orange and light peppery notes with a long tail on the finish. A ripe and brooding nose offers up notes of both red and dark currant, raspberry and a really lovely array of floral elements. The mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is at once finer and more delineated though notably less concentrated and powerful while the lingering and equally firmly structured finish possesses a different texture as the 100% whole cluster vinification is more obvious. Good stuff here as well in a built-to-age style.Inc. TAX€846.94 -

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Carrières 1er Cru comprises six barrels this year, plus one amphora that may or may not be blended. The barrel sample has a concentrated bouquet of ravishing red berry fruit mixed with iodine and violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a slightly chalky texture and a focused, quite Morey-like finish that lingers. There is something serious about this Les Carrières that suggests it will be for long-term consumption. I also tasted the wine from amphora. This has more sheen on the nose, more polish, perhaps. The palate is medium-bodied with black cherry and cassis fruit, the fruit profile similar but the texture silkier than the regular blend. There are touches of pain grillé here, and the wood element is just a little more marked on the finish.Inc. TAX€838.08 -

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Carrières is showing superbly this year, wafting from the glass with notes of cherries, raspberries, spices, raw cocoa and rose hips. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's lively and concentrated, concluding with a long, mineral finish. This has turned out especially well and ranks as one of the finest renditions to date of this de facto monopole (since neither of Les Carrières two other proprietors bottle it as such).Inc.
