  • Gerard Mugneret Vosne-Romanee 2015 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (91)

Full, deep red. A touch of reduction to the very ripe aromas of raspberry, subtle spices and flowers. Creamier and sweeter than the 2016 version but with its pliant red berry, floral and mineral flavors showing lovely energy for 2015. In fact, this broad, pliant, classically dry village wine is not particularly dominated by its vintage and was easy to taste following the 2016s at this address. Finishes with excellent subtle length.

  • Gros Frere et Soeur Richebourg Grand Cru 2009 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

The 2009 Richebourg blossoms in every direction with seemingly endless layers of flavor. An exotic melange of plums, red cherries, flowers and mint starts to take shape as the wine opens up in the glass. There is a pure radiance to the 2009 that is impossible to miss. At the same time, the firm Richebourg tannins keep everything in check. Higher-toned notes develop in the glass, balancing some of the wine’s more virile tendencies. The 2009 remains a bit of a brute and definitely needs further bottle age. This is going to be a fascinating wine to follow. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034.
  • Gros Frere et Soeur Richebourg Grand Cru 2012 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91-93+)

  • Gros Frere et Soeur Richebourg Grand Cru 2022 (3x75cl)

    Burghound (93)

(from a .36 ha holding entirely in the lieu-dit Varoilles). A restrained if markedly spicy nose blends notes of black cherry liqueur, raspberry, exotic tea and a plenitude of floral elements. The focused, detailed and punchy broadshouldered flavors possess an exceptionally rich and sappy mid-palate impression yet the strikingly long and built-to-age finish is youthfully austere, compact and linear. This appears to possess outstanding development potential though patience will definitely be required to realize it.

    Burghound (91)

(from a .36 ha holding entirely in the lieu-dit Varoilles). This is also aromatically restrained but impressively layered with its array of plum, exotic Asian-style tea, crushed anise and floral scents along with discreet oak nuances. There is good size, weight and power to the bigger-bodied flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the slightly short, mildly warm and awkward finish. As the description suggests, this was an odd showing as everything seems to be in place yet the finish ends abruptly and as such, it’s hard to predict how it will eventually age out.

Medium to dark purple. Pepper and spice up front along with some remarkably refined fruit. 100% new wood, to bottle in April. The wood comes from mixed forests, as Jean-Pierre thinks Tronçais doesn’t work here. A bright fresh crimson ruby. More floral more sensual, the early morning rose says Jean-Pierre. This is more quintessentially Vosne than the Brûlées, with a lifted and balanced flair, a mix of darked red fruits, avoiding the blacker side. White pepper spice becomes more apparent at the end. 5 Star Wine. An even deeper purple. I thought it couldn’t get better than Les Brûlées, but it can. The fruit is a little darker, more raspberry than cherry, and there will soon be the lightest of chocolate notes. At this level the whole bunch clouds just add a nuance. • Guyon Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Brulees 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92)

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées has a more broody and introspective bouquet compared to the 2013 Malconsorts from Bichot, although it has its own virtues, bestowed with gorgeous dark plum and cranberry scents, again a touch of dried rose petal lending a kind of femininity. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red cherry and cranberry fruit, nicely structured with a fine line of acidity. There is a touch of chewiness on the finish although with age this will mellow and turn into a fine Vosne-Romanée. Tasted September 2016.
  • Guyon Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Brulees 2021 (3x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)

A deep bright purple. The nose has the characteristic (of Brûlées) smoky struck flint note to it, which adds complexity to the red fruit which is as abundant here as the other wines. Lush in the middle then a structure which tames the extrovert nature, a good point of acidity alongside ripe tannins, and some darker fruit to finish. Potentially extremely fine. 5 Star Wine. Ruby purple with a pinker edge. Such an elegant nose. There is a little bit of the singed rock but it barely competes with the exceptional fine red cherry and raspberry bouquet. This could be his best Brûlées yet and that is really saying a very great deal. Sensational texture, unexaggerated fruit, just joyous and gorgeous. Grace personified. • Gros Frere et Soeur Richebourg Grand Cru 2023 (6x75cl)

A slightly more elegant and layered nose is composed by notes of ripe red and blue pinot fruit, exotic tea and star anise nuances. On the palate there is a bit more volume to the slightly more concentrated medium-bodied flavors that are also plump and fleshy while offering better depth and persistence on the balanced finish. The mid-palate is sufficiently pliant such that this could be enjoyed on the younger side if desired though there is enough structure to repay up to a decade of keeping.

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)

Medium to dark purple. Pepper and spice up front along with some remarkably refined fruit. The intensity is compact at the front then opens out much more behind, with black raspberry becoming more apparent. The intensity is impressive for 2021 and the natural balance undeniable. Sweet fruit finish. Drink from 2028-2035.

A thick velvet coat of fruit throughout. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023.

5 Star Wine. An even deeper purple. I thought it couldn’t get better than Les Brûlées, but it can. The fruit is a little darker, more raspberry than cherry, and there will soon be the lightest of chocolate notes. At this level the whole bunch clouds just add a nuance. This is more complex than the Brûlées, with a greater depth of fruit but could not be any more harmonious. Drink from 2029-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.

Drink from 2028-2035.

  • Guyon Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Brulees 2022 (3x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)

(5 Star Wine) Deep ruby crimson colour. At this end of the scale the power of the fruit and the vineyard character completely outweigh the vinification. 100% new wood (Tronçais) is invisible. Instead, we find the slaty and singed character of the vineyard, plus an astonishing wealth of fruit. A thickness of texture which is extraordinary. Quite stunning this year with the blood red depth of fruit. Enough acidity behind and exceptional pure as well as concentrated. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023.

  • Guyon Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Brulees 2023 (3x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)

5 Star Wine. Ruby purple with a pinker edge. Such an elegant nose. There is a little bit of the singed rock but it barely competes with the exceptional fine red cherry and raspberry bouquet. This could be his best Brûlées yet and that is really saying a very great deal. Sensational texture, unexaggerated fruit, just joyous and gorgeous. Grace personified. The only reason I could consider withholding the 5th star is because the En Orveaux cuvée is even finer! Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.

40% new wood, December bottling. Far from the deepest in colour, but definitely not the least elegant either! Rose petals abound. A few fresh alpine strawberries too. This has remarkable tension on the palate and is almost as nuanced as an Echezeaux (at least as, Jean-Pierre thinks!). Certainly there is a gorgeous, almost glossy aftertaste. Highest pH. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: November 2023.

In a region with some of the world’s most expensive and sought after Pinot Noir, the appellation of Vosne-Romanee is at the very top of this list, consistently outshining even its most impressive neighbours. Much has been waxed poetic about these wines, which are praised for their intensity, power, finesse, richness, and overall elegance. There are eight Grand Cru vineyards here including Richebourg, Romanee-Saint-Vivant, Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux, as well as the monopoles La Grande Rue (Domaine Lamarche), La Romanee (Comte Liger-Belair), and Romanee-Conti and La Tache (both monopoles of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti.)
