Wine Advocate (91)The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Villages is superb, unfurling in the glass with a youthful bouquet of sweet cassis, wild berries and peony that mingles with subtle hints of candied peel, grilled meat and rich forest floor. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, pure and velvety, structured around a chassis of fine-grained tannins that will demand some bottle age, underpinned by bright acids and concluding with a strikingly fragrant finish. It's a beautiful wine that exemplifies the fragrant, precise style that Bertrand Dugat and his siblings are coaxing from their family's enviable patrimony of old and meticulously farmed vines. |

Vinous (90-92)Moderately saturated ruby-red. Blackberry, cassis and menthol aromas are lifted by a mineral element. Juicy, saline and youthfully tight, even a bit clenched, but with harmonious bright acidity giving verve to the wine's dark berry flavors. Serious building tannins saturate the entire palate on the rather suave, fine-grained finish. |

Wine Advocate (88-90)The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Villages also comes from three vineyards and is matured in one-third new oak. This has an impressive bouquet like the Morey-Saint-Denis, with delineated red berry fruit and fine mineralité considering this is only a village cru. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and well-judged acidity, dipping a little toward the finish but still equipped with fine detail and precision. Excellent, albeit maybe earlier drinking than the Morey-Saint-Denis. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91-93)Bright, deep red. Enticing, nuanced aromas of black raspberry, mocha, game, iron and animal fur. Suave and silky, with nicely integrated acidity framing the sappy red fruit and torrefaction flavors. This shows lovely inner-mouth perfume and noteworthy complexity. Finishes with big, broad tannins and lingering red fruits. But does it have the classic thrust of great Chambertin? |

Vinous (91-94)Bright medium red. Sexy nose combines black raspberry, minerals and musky espresso. Fat, sweet, fine-grained and lush; in an elegant, even understated style, and not at all a powerhouse. But there's no shortage of tannic spine here. The silky texture carries through to the long finish. This is aging in 100% new oak, whereas most of the rest of the 2007s are getting about 70%, as Mortet is slowly but steadily cutting back on his use of new barriques |

Wine Advocate (95-97)Matured entirely in new oak, the 2013 Chambertin Grand Cru has a beguiling, elegant bouquet that is beautifully defined with superb mineralité coming through with aeration. Nothing flamboyant, nothing overstated here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, very harmonious, with a svelte texture and it positively glides toward the pure sorbet-like finish. The small number of owners will be glad they have some of this nectar - for me, one of the wines of the vintage. |

Wine Advocate (95-97)The 2014 Chambertin Grand Cru, around three barrels this year, is matured in 100% new oak and includes around 30% to 40% whole bunch fruit. It has a very energetic bouquet with intense, compelling undergrowth/sous-bois aromas, with hints of tree bark tincturing the blackberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and the fruit here soaks up that new wood easily, allowing the wine to maintain fine delineation and poise. Harmonious right to the finish; this is a very serious, very complex Chambertin with genuine aristocracy. |

Wine Advocate (95-97)The 2015 Chambertin Grand Cru consists of three barrels this year, and is matured in 100% new oak and includes 50% whole bunch. It has a very clean and precise bouquet, more backward and broody than the Bonnes-Mares, the oak in the driving seat at the moment but with plenty of black fruit behind it. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannin, succulent black and red fruit with white pepper and spice box notes, a clinical thread of acidity that binds together a harmonious, almost understated finish. A case of 'less is more' here. |

Wine Advocate (94-96)There is just one new barrel of the 2016 Chambertin Grand Cru instead of the usual three, using 50% to 60% whole bunch. It has a linear, strict and focused bouquet, not a flamboyant Chambertin, yet well defined with tightly coiled black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with very impressive complexity, pure and intense, mineral-driven with a sweet cassis-tinged finish that seems to go on forever. Excellent...but maybe not the best from Arnaud Mortet this year. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru contains 40-50% whole bunches and is matured in 100% new oak (the only cuvée to do so.) It has quite an intense bouquet and as you would expect, the new wood is expressed as much as the fruit at the moment. With time, scents of tobacco and undergrowth emerge. The palate is very well balanced with grippy tannin, quite saline in the mouth with plenty of tightly-wound, detailed black fruit towards the lengthy finish. It will require several years in bottle but will be worth the wait. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru is matured entirely in new oak with 40-50% whole-bunch fruit. It displays sublime purity on the nose, which offers layers of brambly red fruit mixed with crushed stone, pressed rose petals and freshly tilled soil. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins and a perfect line of acidity. Tighter than the Mazis-Chambertin, with a precise and quite conservative finish. This is another profound Chambertin from Arnaud Mortet. |

Tim Atkin MW (98)This is one of those wines that just goes for it. It's other worldly. It is made entirely with Arnaud's twist on whole clusters: vendange enti re d coup e, or whole cluster with the stem cut out by hand. As with many things, it sounds "prettier" in French! It also sees 100% new oak. Layered in aromas and flavors, there are leather scents, exotic spices, field strawberries and more. There's a bit of woodsy grip, too, and the tannins definitely are firmer than the Bonnes Mares. The solid fruit core and elegant, lingering finish suggest that this has at least a few decades in it. 2025-45 |

Blackberries, blueberries, flowers, licorice and spices are woven together beautifully in this bright, highly expressive Gevrey. The 1er Cru has more than enough stuffing to stand up to the new oak, which is 60-65% in this vintage, lower than it has been in the past. The 1er Cru is made from parcels in Petite Chapelle, Cherbaudes, Bel Air and Champonnets, each of which is too small to bottle separately. Tasted from tank. |

Vinous (92)(vinified with 25% whole clusters): Good medium red. Red fruits, spices and warm earth tones on the inviting nose. Creamy, sweet and pliant in the middle, with a touch of stony minerality to brace the red fruit and spice flavors. Vinous (92)Bright, dark red. Superripe-verging-on-liqueur-like but with lovely perfumed lift to its cherry, red berry and dark chocolate aromas. Wonderfully dense, sappy, concentrated wine with serious medicinal reserve and surprising framing acidity to its deep core of dark fruit, mineral and spice flavors. As ripe as this is, it does not pass into surmaturité. Finishes with substantial ripe, dusty tannins and terrific length. A splendid village wine with the density and depth to age. |
