Wine Advocate (96)Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Faiveley's 2014 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very perfumed bouquet with pure dark plum, bergamot and pressed rose petal aromas that filter from the glass. Wonderful. The palate is very well balanced with a fine line of acidity, tensile from the start with hints of bay leaf and spice toward the structured and persistent finish. This is a very strong showing from Faiveley, a really marvelous Mazis-Chambertin for the long-haul. Tasted September 2017. |

Vinous (92+)Healthy medium red. Slightly stunted but pure aromas of red berries and black cherry are less exuberant than those of the Champeaux. Also more restrained and tightly wound in the mouth, but with vibrant acidity and a sensation of peppery grip giving the wine terrific inner-mouth energy. Classic 2013 in its tautness and cut. Finishes ripely tannic and long; this should be a beauty with mid-term cellaring. |

Vinous (93-96)Bright red-ruby. Knockout nose combines raspberry, black cherry, dried rose, wild herbs, mint and white pepper. Penetrating, tight and stony, with terrific juicy energy and grip to the berry, licorice and cardamom flavors. No sign of overripeness here! Finishes with terrific spine and an impression of youthfully austerity. Captivating ginger and lemon rind notes add complexity and grip. I don't think I would have picked this compellingly perfumed wine blind as a 2009. Along with the 2009 Bonnes-Mares, this has to be one of the most promising wines to date from Fred Magnien. |

Wine Advocate (89)The 2014 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a powerful nose with broody dark berry, cola-tinged fruit that need more delineation and terroir-expression--the winemaking comes through a little strongly here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, quite plush tannin and a little more...decorum...than the aromatics, as if it has just remembered that it is a Grand Cru. I appreciate the focus here on the finish; I just wish the aromatics could muster more sophistication. |

In the end, this seems either too oaky or too extracted, finishing on the dry side. Best from 2015 through 2032. 290 cases made. -BS |
