  • Trapet Pere & Fils Chambertin Grand Cru 2021 (1x150cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-99)

5 Star Wine. Picked 28th September. A rich, indeed sumptuous purple. Exceptionally youthful bouquet with a little touch of new wood. A magical wine, which is entirely in balance. It is not just the concentration which moves to another level but the sublime and effortless suavity of texture. All in pure red fruit, nothing dark, my favourite alpine strawberries, but a host of other berries as well. Magical.

  • Trapet Pere & Fils Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 (3x150cl)

    Burghound (94-97)

(from 3 different parcels that total 1.85 ha). This is the most floral wine in the range with a huge array of such elements adding elegance to the poached plum, dark currant, smoked game, exotic tea and moderate wood aromas. The gorgeously textured, mineral-driven and overtly muscular big-bodied flavors possess a Zen-like harmony on the superbly long, complex and built-to-age finale where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is potentially spectacular and a wine that should amply reward 15 to 20 years of aging.

    Wine Advocate (94)

The 2010 Chapelle-Chambertin is a haunting wine graced with exquisite aromatics and layers of silky fruit. This is all class and elegance. The 2010 boasts striking inner perfume and sweetness all the way through to the finish. There is a level of textural brilliance and finesse here that is just plain gorgeous. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2040.

  • Trapet Pere & Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Alea 2016 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (90-92)

(the yield here was just 15 hectoliters per hectare, according to Jean-Louis Trapet): Good bright medium red. Deeper on the nose than the preceding village wines, offering aromas of plum, currant, roast coffee and cocoa. Graceful, fine-grained wine, offering very good depth, intriguing saline minerality and noteworthy precision. More floral than herbal. The persistent finish features a subtle sweetness and suave tannins that saturate the sides of the tongue. This will be Trapet's only premier cru bottling from the 2016 vintage.

The 2015 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a refined bouquet of pretty, slightly tertiary red berry fruit laced with subtle oyster shell scents. The fresh, vibrant, medium-bodied palate presents fine-grained tannin, crisp acidity and a succinct, mineral-driven, detailed finish that does this grand cru proud. Bon vin! Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

  • Trapet Pere et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvee Ostrea 2015 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (90)

Moderately saturated medium red. Deep aromas of plum, raspberry and flinty, smoky minerality; one senses rocks here. Suppler and sweeter than the basic village Gevrey, but still with a bit of reserve to its plum, smoke and game flavors. This is silky and ripe--even a bit plump--but avoids coming off as heavy owing to its nicely integrated acidity. Not a high-pitched wine but a lovely soil expression.
  • Varoilles Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos des Varoilles 2016 (6x75cl)

Recognised as a connoisseur’s delight, the Varoilles Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos des Varoilles 2016 is an exceptional expression of French winemaking finesse. Hailing from the renowned Domaine des Varoilles in the heart of Burgundy, this distinguished wine boasts grapes grown on a historic Premier Cru monopole vineyard. Methodically hand-harvested for precision quality control, this Pinot Noir grape wine is matured for 18 months in oak, lending it a distinct complexity and elegance.

The 2016 vintage stands out with its remarkable balance and structure, providing a truly harmonious tasting experience. Its rich bouquet of ripe dark berries and delicate mineral undertones alongside a lingering silky finish render it a perfect companion to fine gastronomy. Undeniably, the Varoilles Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos des Varoilles 2016 is an exquisite testimony of the Domaine des Varoilles' unwavering commitment to exceptional winemaking. A bottle of this distinguished wine is an investment in an authentic Burgundy wine experience.

  • Vougeraie Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Mazoyeres 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93+)

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Charmes-Chambertin les Mazoyères Grand Cru has a lighter bouquet than its peers, a little simplistic for a grand cru although it does improve in the glass, becoming savory with hints of dried blood. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, good weight if missing sophistication and breeding, showing a slight bitterness towards the dry finish and yet you cannot help but feel this is going to turn into a lovely Charmes-Chambertin. Maybe this is enduring a dumb phase ... you will just have to wait it out. Tasted September 2016.

  • Vougeraie Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Mazoyeres 2015 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

The 2015 Charmes Chambertin les Mazoyeres Grand Cru offers up notes of red and black fruit, beetroot, earth and whole cluster spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and silky, with an expansive attack, a layered mid-palate and a long, saline finish. This is quite stylized, marked by whole cluster fermentation which seems to give it a high pH feel, but for admirers of this particular aesthetic—a perspective my score reflects—this should offer two decades of rewarding drinking.

  • Vougeraie Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Mazoyeres 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92-94)

The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin les Mazoyères Grand Cru comes from the oldest vines owned by the domaine, now 104 years old, which apparently have no disease and still offer good yields at around 30hl/ha. It has a quite a backward bouquet that gradually unfurls to reveal crushed stone, broom and Provençal herb aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, the 80% whole bunches neatly integrated, and gentle grip toward the finish. Good potential here.
