The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has an open nose of brambly red fruit, sous-bois and wilted rose petals, very pure and charming, and not dissimilar in style to François Bertheau's Chambolle 1er Cru. The palate is very harmonious, open and transparent. It feels lighter than others, yet the tension and precision will see this age with style, and perhaps it will not close down. Tempting now, but I would prefer to wait. Classy. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Inc. TAX€719.28 -

The 1985 Drouhin Musigny was again a better bottle than the last time I had this wine just three months ago. What's up with Drouhin showing better in Hong Kong? Maybe it likes the humidity here. It was the most open of this flight, in '85 fashion, sweet and gamy and full of Pinot fruit. Caramel kisses and damp earth rounded out its nutty nose. Paul agreed this was a better bottle than the one he had recently as well; in fact, I think it was the same bottle we shared in New York, or same batch. This bottle was in a perfect spot and still ascending.Inc. TAX€5,860.60 -
Vinous (94)
The 1989 Musigny Grand Cru is comparatively deep in color with thin bricking on the rim. This has a beguiling nose of darker fruit mixed with autumn leaves, black truffle and morels, becoming more and more floral with time. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins; hints of Lapsang Souchong infuse the red and black fruit, cloves and spice toward the finish. Maybe a little foursquare, yet given my indifference to this Burgundy vintage, it shows extremely well. Tasted at the Drouhin Musigny vertical in London.Inc. TAX€2,500.13 -
Vinous (93)
The 1996 Musigny Grand Cru has an enticing, well-defined bouquet of dark berries, iris flower, dried blood and pine needle scents, opening nicely with aeration. Medium-bodied and, like many 1996s, quite backward and burly in style; a masculine Musigny with traces of freshly rolled tobacco on the finish. Moderate length. This has clearly got legs, though where is it going to go? Tasted at the Drouhin Musigny vertical in London.Inc. TAX€3,470.24 -
(1x75cl) 2002Vinous (95)
The 2002 Musigny Grand Cru is slightly paler than the 2007. It has an exquisite nose of pressed rose petals plus hints of clove and sous-bois. The palate is beautifully balanced, presenting a mélange of red and black fruit and traces of tobacco, and becoming fleshier and grippier toward the finish. Maybe not a showstopper like the 1999, but a really gorgeous wine. Tasted at the Drouhin Musigny vertical in London.Inc. TAX€1,713.84 -

(Don't Miss!) An exotic and spicy nose features raspberry, red current, anise and clove notes that give way to sweet, classy and notably finely detailed flavors that are also relatively forward early but tighten up considerably on the backend. In most vintages, this is the undisputed class of the cellar and while it may ultimately be so once again, in 2004 it has competition. Still, lovely stuff by any standard.Inc. TAX€982.13 -

Palish medium red. Good lift to the aromas of red fruits, smoke, cinnamon and fresh herbs. A medium-bodied wine with good smoky intensity to its flavors of redcurrant, iron and spices. (6x75cl) 2012Wine Advocate (93-95)
The 2012 Musigny Grand Cru includes vines planted between 1971 and 1982 that are usually picked at the same time. This was one of the few cuvees that began fermenting after just 48 hours and finished within five days, ditto the malo-lactic that was completed relatively quickly compared to Drouhin’s other crus. It has a very sophisticated bouquet with an ethereal sense of delineation and focus (actually reminiscent of a fine Romanee-St.-Vivant.) The palate is silky smooth on the entry with velvet-textured red fruit that is enveloped in creamy, new oak that does not impinge upon the typicity of Musigny. Maybe it just dips before the finish line, but otherwise this is a consummate Musigny.Inc. TAX€6,187.02 -
Burghound (96)
A broad-ranging and more expressive nose consists of a wonderful range of spice elements together with notes of black tea, earth and floral hints. There is strikingly good intensity and real power to the overtly muscular big-bodied flavors that ooze a fine dry extract that imparts a suave, even velvety mouth feel to the robust finale that also delivers superb persistence. As the best examples of Musigny always are, this delivers that inimitable combination of power and finesse and in doing so deserves the high compliment of being a 'wow' wine.Inc. TAX€2,808.37 -

The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru unfurls in the glass with captivating aromas of dried flowers, rose petal, violets and raspberries that mingle with deeper bass notes of espresso roast and raw cocoa. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny and extremely elegant, with terrific depth, concentration and amplitude, framed by rich but powdery tannins and concluding with a beautifully fragrant finish. Unsurprisingly, this is likely the red wine of the vintage chez Drouhin.Inc. TAX€2,636.24 -
