Burgundy 2022 En Primeur: Blue Skies Over Beaune, Verdant Vines In Vosne
After the unusually cold and small-yielding 2021, the 2022 vintage swung back to what we might consider the “new norm”. With an overall abundance of warmth and sunshine, timely rainfall in June and August helped to balance out any effects of the heat. Early impressions tell a story of wines in general produced with more richness and concentration than their predecessors, with the best of them retaining all important freshness and disarming equilibrium.
Jasper Morris is the first critic to release the 2022 vintage report. He praised the vintage as "bountiful and beautiful" and recommends collectors to consider cellaring the wines.
"Vintages that came to mind were 1985 for the health of the grapes, 1999 for the size of the crop and the relative consistency of quality though with a bias towards the Côte de Beaune, and 2002 – just short of top flight but a really lovely flavour profile of medium density and longevity." Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
"All other things being equal, I would recommend going large in 2022, large in the sense of a broad range because there are so many really good wines at all levels." Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)The recipe for both 2022 Amoureuses wines is 30% new wood and 100% whole bunches. The Grâce des Argiles comes from the bottom section of the vineyard, grown on red clay. A solid rich bouquet yet absolutely with its seductive charm. A velvet covering on a big frame with a delicious richness of fruit without losing the precision of the year. A superb fruit weight, yet with energy from a sufficiently mineral acidity to finish. Drink from 2030-2040+. |

Robert Sirugue Vosne-Romanee 2022 is a finely etched red Burgundy from France’s Burgundy region, sourced in the Vosne-Romanee sub-region. The Sirugue family are long-established growers in Vosne-Romanée, farming a small domaine where Pinot Noir is shaped as much by meticulous viticulture as by a restrained hand in the cellar. In keeping with the house style documented by leading Burgundy commentators, the winemaking favours clarity over make-up: careful fruit selection, traditional fermentations and élevage designed to frame, not mask, the commune’s hallmark perfume. The 2022 vintage delivers a poised expression of Vosne-Romanee: supple dark cherry and wild berry fruit, lifted floral notes and a discreet savoury spice, carried by silky tannins and bright, stony acidity. Decant young for aromatic breadth, or cellar to let the texture and nuance deepen. Robert Sirugue Vosne-Romanee belongs on a connoisseur’s table. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)5 Star Wine. Mostly from Robardelles with a bit of En Ormeau. A dark glowing purple, plenty of energy at the rim. All whole bunch vinification but this is lightly worn. Dark cherries and bilberries but not overheated. A fine and welcome thread of acidity, lively across the palate, with excellent length. Two thirds new wood is invisible. A light touch of salinity. |
