(violet; from 9 different lieux-dits). A perfumed and more elegant and slightly cooler nose reflects spicy red cherry aromas that are liberally laced with a plethora of floral nuances. The innate refinement of Chambolle is very much on display with the punchy middle weight flavors that exude a subtle bead of minerality on the balanced and moderately austere finale where a hint of bitter pit fruit character slowly emerges. This is also an excellent villages and warmly recommended.

The 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Ane exhibits aromas of pear, white flowers, freshly baked bread and stuck match, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and racy palate that's pure and precise, concluding with a chalky finish. As readers may remember, this parcel, formerly planted to red, abuts Pierre Morey's Meursault Perrières, and the soils are very stony.

The 2022 Beaune Les Prévolles comes from one-third of their own parcels and the rest from a neighbor's plot that is worked by Catharina Sadde and is populated with older vines prone to millerandage. This contains 80% whole bunches (less in 2023) with 20m/g of free SO2. The perfumed nose shows slightly darker fruit than other cuvées, with raspberry, blackberry leaf and a briar hint. The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure, a fine line of acidity and a little tension towards the finish. Excellent.

(5 Star Wine) Fresh purple of medium depth. Much the liveliest bouquet with its concentration of raspberries, very complete and absolutely delicious. The finish continues gorgeously, this will make a beautiful bottle with a little patience. This Clos des Ursules shows the classic peacock’s fantail of aromatics.

Vinous - Neal Martin (94-96)

The 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a perfumed, very floral bouquet with wilted rose petals and touches of lavender, complementing the vivacious red fruit. It is an archetypal Echézeaux. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and a fine bead of acidity. It’s quite peppery towards the finish, so you might misconstrue it as containing some whole bunches. Very satisfying complexity on the finish; this is an excellent Eche.
