This wine is always too multi-faceted to admit of simple fruit descriptors. There are quite a few berries in the bowl. Some fresh red fruit then much darer notes, I turn lightened up by the peppery notes to finish. This really kicks on magically behind! 75-80 whole bunch vinification. Drink from 2035. |

The supple and more refined middle weight flavors possess a bit more energy that carries over to the relatively powerful and lingering, and decidedly firm, finish where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. Like the Bussières, this is the best vintage for the Combottes that I’ve seen in sometime. I would add that Combottes is normally a relatively forward Chambolle 1er but that’s not the case in 2022. |
