Produced from a parcel located on the extreme northern end of its vineyard, just below Domaine Armand Rousseau's, Pierre Damoy's 1999 Chambertin was harvested at 32 hectoliters per hectare. It is medium to dark ruby-colored and reveals licorice, sweet cherry, blackberry, toasted oak, and spice flavors. This full-bodied wine has huge concentration to its rich and intense character. It is highly structured and youthfully austere, yet loaded with powerful black fruits and a strong oak influence. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2013+.

Damoy's 2013 Chambertin comes across as decidedly wild and powerful in style. Juicy black cherries, mint, sage, lavender and violets flesh out as the 2013 shows off its breadth and density. Today, the Chambertin is quite raw, as the malos aren't quite finished. I suspect the 2013 will be quite a bit more complete and harmonious in a few months, once the elements meld together further. Still, the 2013 is impressive just the same.

Grown in the prestigious terrain of Chambertin, this exceptional Pierre Damoy Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 is crafted delicately by the esteemed house of Pierre Damoy. This producer, notorious for his distinct insights, is recognised for producing less than 6000 bottles per year, making this wine genuinely limited and highly sought after.

Sourced entirely from old vine Pinot Noir, meticulously hand-harvested and aged for 18 months in up to 50% new French oak barrels, its nobility exudes delicate trends of spices, ripe cherries, and blackcurrant, with undertones of earthy truffle. The exquisite balance of velvety tannins and vibrant acidity on the palate is synonymous to the impeccable, yet subtle ageing potential, making it an age-worthy promise.

Philosophical in approach, the Pierre Damoy Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 encapsulates the best of Burgundy's terroir, reflecting the meticulous cultivation and traditional winemaking processes.

The 2000 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has matured very well in bottle over the last 18 years with perfumed redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, orange blossom, minerals and just a hint of sage. It is one of the best aromatics that I have encountered from this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well judged acidity, nicely integrated oak with good substance and persistence towards the tender, slightly saline finish. In a different league to Damoy's Chapelle-Chambertin. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2000 and 2001 horizontal tasting.

The 2013 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is incredibly dense at this stage. Powerful yet implosive, the 2013 is a ball of tightly wound energy. Dark cherry jam, cloves, mint and hard candy are barely developed in an embryonic Bèze that appears to have a very bright future ahead of it. The aromatics continue to soar as the wine sits in the glass, hinting at what is to come. Readers will have to be patient with this decidedly authoritative, incisive Bèze.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Damoy's 2014 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru was one of the highlights of the entire tasting. It has a showstopper of a nose with brilliantly defined black plum, cranberry, wild strawberry, sous bois and minerals. You just have to stop and admire the clarity of the aromatics here. The palate is extremely well balanced with a fine bead of acidity interwoven through the black cherry, cranberry and raspberry fruit. There is the structure and masculinity of a Clos de Bèze, and yet it is certainly not unapproachable at this premature stage. Fabulous. You can feel the mouth still tingling long after the wine has departed. Quite brilliant. Tasted September 2017.

The 2015 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru has a very elegant bouquet. Usually I find Damoy's wines a little too extracted for my personal taste, although here there is admirable Pinot Noir expression. An omen for the future? The palate is medium-bodied with black pepper-tinged red berry fruit, a slight dustiness developing towards the finish, but there is respectable concentration and persistence on the finish.

The 2019 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru is very similar to the Chapelle-Chambertin on the nose and likewise, the palate shows too much new oak (70-80%) that feels disproportionate to the fruit underneath, as if singing from a different hymn sheet.

The 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Tamisot has a high-toned and rather ersatz bouquet compared to its peers. The palate is soft and mushroomy, fully mature but lacking tension and precision, quite dull on the finish. Tasted at Sarah Marsh MW’s 2002 Red Burgundy tasting.

There is a lot of new oak on the nose of the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Tamisot, obscuring the red plummy fruit. The palate is sweet and demonstrates quite a heavy extraction. Overall, this just misses personality.
