Laroque

One of the most ancient properties in Saint-Émilion, Laroque's history stretches back to the 1300s. It is one of the few proper castles in Bordeaux and the imposing tower adds a medieval edge that few others have, cutting a distinctive silhouette in the landscape. Located not far from one of the appellation’s heavy-weights and fellow Suire stablemate, Pavie-Macquin, the terroir is undeniably world class and undoubtedly it shows in the wine.

2016

Laroque 2016 (6x75cl) Château Laroque 2016 was been named in Decanter’s ‘Top 10 St. Émilion Grand Crus to Watch’. In the review, Jane Anson specifically referenced the terroir-driven approach at Laroque which was driving the dramatic increase in quality (as scores).

Anson also highlighted that, although it was classified in 1996, the recent meteoric rise of Laroque really took off in 2015 when David Suire was appointed Director. Suire is hugely respected in St. Émilion circuit having worked closely with Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt for some time. The vines at Laroque are over 50 years old.

Both Wine Advocate and Vinous have upgraded Laroque 2016 since their release tastings, and we continue to recommend this wine very strongly.
