Henri Boillot
The Boillot family established themselves in the region in 1885, and Henri represents the fifth winemaking generation, with his son now overseeing the production of the reds.
The winery is located on the “other” side of the RN74 in an estate that includes the Damy cooperage. This impressive facility affords Henri far more space then if he were couched in some mediaeval maison in one of the villages, which is mandatory when you have such an all-embracing portfolio of wines.
Henri Boillot produces domaine and negociant wines from Burgandy’s most renowned growing areas. Henri is a 5th generation vigneron in the Cote d’Or. Wines of Maison Henri Boillot are produced in a cellar in Meursault and are vibrant and full of character.

The 2021 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is another attractive wine in this range from Boillot. Medium in body and nicely lifted, the Bonnes Mares has plenty of energy, if not quite the depth or textural resonance of the very best years. This is a decidedly small-scaled Bonnes Mares. - Antonio GalloniInc. TAX€1,909.33 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (87-88)
Just their own vines. Mid yellow, quite robust nose, plenty of fruit if not quite the length of the great years, fresh acidity, zesty and makes one salivate. Still one of the best Bourgogne Blancs around. Drink from 2024-2026. Tasted: October 2022Inc. TAX€420.61 -

The 2021 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is a pretty and beguiling wine. All of the nuance and character of Bèze is present, but with less volume than in most vintages. Sweet floral and spice notes are front and center. This mid-weight elegant Bèze offers tons of harmony and nuance. I very much like the energy here. Hints of Griotte cherry, crushed rose petals, spice and blood orange extend the finish nicely. - Antonio GalloniInc. TAX€1,903.33 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (from Grand Maupertuis) is bright, piercing and crystalline. This is a very pretty wine, but it needs to be appreciated on its own terms. I don’t see a ton of Clos Vougeot character; rather, the vintage style speaks most clearly. Readers will find a tonic, energetic Burgundy. - Antonio GalloniInc. TAX€1,265.22 -

In 2021 the Boillot Corton-Charlemagne is all from Aloxe and not the three communes. Mid lemon yellow. The nose has some style, flesh and floral and potentially stony. More wood is showing at the back but there is so much wine still to come out. Lemon juice intensity at the back. Very long again Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: October 2022Inc. TAX€1,445.11 -

The 2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru is powerful yet not fully developed. There's good energy throughout, that much is evident, but the mid-palate needs to fill out a bit more. It will be interesting to see if that happens in bottle, as the wine I tasted was at the end of its elevage in barrel. Dark red fruit, gravel, spice, leather and game lend quite a bit of darkness to this Echezeaux, which emerges from a parcel in La Combe d'Orveau. - Antonio GalloniInc. TAX€306.10 -

Outstanding. Cool, airy and very pretty aromas of the essence of pear, exotic tea, spice and acacia blossom are trimmed in an admirably discreet touch of oak. Much like the Pucelles, the texture of the slightly bigger and more mineral-driven flavors is wonderfully refined and even more powerful on the explosively long, graceful and bone-dry finale. This is also highly recommended.Inc. TAX€1,666.21 -
Burghound (91)
Outstanding Moderate reduction is enough to push the underlying fruit to the background. By contrast, there is excellent freshness and intensity to the solidly concentrated medium weight flavors that coat the palate with dry extract while delivering impressive length on the balanced, youthfully austere and citrus-tinged finale. This is a really good Puligny villages and even though it's more powerful than usual, it remains stylish and refined. One to buy plus it should age gracefully.Inc. TAX€1,045.81 -

The 2021 Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru is bright and focused, very much on the lighter side, as is the case with the reds this year. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, white pepper, rose petals and cinnamon add lovely aromatic top notes. There is Nebbiolo-like tension to the Fremiets that might not be exactly what Burgundy drinkers are looking for. - Antonio GalloniInc. TAX€939.86 -
