Henri Boillot
The Boillot family established themselves in the region in 1885, and Henri represents the fifth winemaking generation, with his son now overseeing the production of the reds.
The winery is located on the “other” side of the RN74 in an estate that includes the Damy cooperage. This impressive facility affords Henri far more space then if he were couched in some mediaeval maison in one of the villages, which is mandatory when you have such an all-embracing portfolio of wines.
Henri Boillot produces domaine and negociant wines from Burgandy’s most renowned growing areas. Henri is a 5th generation vigneron in the Cote d’Or. Wines of Maison Henri Boillot are produced in a cellar in Meursault and are vibrant and full of character.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)The holding is right in the middle of Bâtard-Montrachet, with rows all the way up and down. Mid yellow. A weighty punchy bouquet, not quite so fine. Massive on the palate and the fruit takes on a whiter, not over ripe configuration, with excellent thread of acidity. Still an absolute baby but will certainly achieve its grand cru status. Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: October 2022 |

Vinous (91-94)The 2021 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is another attractive wine in this range from Boillot. Medium in body and nicely lifted, the Bonnes Mares has plenty of energy, if not quite the depth or textural resonance of the very best years. This is a decidedly small-scaled Bonnes Mares. - Antonio Galloni |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (87-88)Just their own vines. Mid yellow, quite robust nose, plenty of fruit if not quite the length of the great years, fresh acidity, zesty and makes one salivate. Still one of the best Bourgogne Blancs around. Drink from 2024-2026. Tasted: October 2022 |

Vinous (92-94)The 2021 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is a pretty and beguiling wine. All of the nuance and character of Bèze is present, but with less volume than in most vintages. Sweet floral and spice notes are front and center. This mid-weight elegant Bèze offers tons of harmony and nuance. I very much like the energy here. Hints of Griotte cherry, crushed rose petals, spice and blood orange extend the finish nicely. - Antonio Galloni |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)In 2021 the Boillot Corton-Charlemagne is all from Aloxe and not the three communes. Mid lemon yellow. The nose has some style, flesh and floral and potentially stony. More wood is showing at the back but there is so much wine still to come out. Lemon juice intensity at the back. Very long again Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: October 2022 |

Vinous (90-92)The 2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru is powerful yet not fully developed. There's good energy throughout, that much is evident, but the mid-palate needs to fill out a bit more. It will be interesting to see if that happens in bottle, as the wine I tasted was at the end of its elevage in barrel. Dark red fruit, gravel, spice, leather and game lend quite a bit of darkness to this Echezeaux, which emerges from a parcel in La Combe d'Orveau. - Antonio Galloni |

Vinous (89)The 2021 Meursault, a blend of five parcels across the village, offers good tension and energy, naturally in the smaller-scaled style of the year. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint and white pepper all grace this attractive village-level bottling from Henri Boillot. - Antonio Galloni |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-94)Guillaume has pulled out the youngest vines, for rootstock reasons. Most of the old vines fortunately are on 3309C. But badly frosted, below 10 hl/ha. A little more yellow in the colour, a riper fruit, which then comes back to its roots on the palate. Sappy, Guillaume says, while there is a generosity in the mouth which has completely retained its balance. Very persistent. Drink from 2026-2032. Tasted: October 2022 |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)5*s Clean pure lemon yellow, with a striking incisive bouquet, still some floral element but also the limestone is singing. Precision Pucelles. Fascinating tension here, clean white fruit, really kicks on well behind. Definitely a buy. The oak is very well managed. Drink from 2027-2033. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2021 Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru is bright and focused, very much on the lighter side, as is the case with the reds this year. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, white pepper, rose petals and cinnamon add lovely aromatic top notes. There is Nebbiolo-like tension to the Fremiets that might not be exactly what Burgundy drinkers are looking for. - Antonio Galloni |
