Domaine Duroché

About Domaine Duroché

The wines by fourth-generation Gilles Duroché and his son Pierre, are utterly transporting. Unmistakably Pinot Noir and inescapably Gevrey-Chambertin, the wines give a dynamic sense of place and can be seen as a masterclass in the style of the appellation. With exacting standards applied across the entire range, from the humblest Bourgogne up to the Grands Crus, Duroché has made a name for itself as one of the premier growers in this fabled region.

Duroche Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques 2014 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (91)

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St Jacques has a simple, quite juicy bouquet with ample fruit—cranberry, wild strawberries and a touch of orange peel. It seems to coalesce and gain harmony with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannin and a fine line of acidity, quite pure and juicy with a primal, black plum and white pepper-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. Very fine indeed, but it will need another couple of years and then it may deserve a higher score. Stylish and traditional Lavaut-Saint-Jacques from Domaine Duroché. Tasted September 2017.

Duroche Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques 2016 (6x75cl)

Burghound (90-93)

Moderate wood frames cool, pure and restrained aromas of various dark berries, humus and a gamy whiff. The tautly muscular and impressively intense medium weight plus flavors also exude plenty of minerality on the seductive yet quite serious finish that leaves little doubt that this will need at least 10 years to arrive at its apogee.

Duroche Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux 2014 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (89-91)

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux comes from vines planted in 1986. There are two barrels this year, one new and the other used. It has a broody, earthy bouquet, perhaps a little herbaceous compared to Pierre Duroché's other 2014s, but nicely detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, not the more complex Champeaux that you will find, but texturally it is very harmonious and seems to caress the finish. This should drink nicely over the next decade.

Duroche Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux 2016 (6x75cl)

Burghound (90-93)

A wonderfully pure nose is composed of the essence of dark cherry, spice and a touch of the sauvage. Once again there is excellent punch and an abundance of dry extract on the intensely stony medium weight flavors that deliver sneaky good length on the sappy and mildly austere finale. This is firm but not so much so that after 5-ish years or so this wouldn't provide a fine drinking experience.
