Domaine Dujac
About Domaine Dujac
Domaine Dujac remains one of the most revered producers of Burgundy and continues to drive Burgundy collectors mad with desire. Founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, who spent years travelling around Burgundy honing his craft by learning from the likes of Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Charles Rousseau of Domaine Armand Rousseau.
This Morey-Saint-Denis-based producer is one of the region’s top cult wineries. Gaining a reputation for rich, full-bodied Red Burgundy, the modus operandi was to make use of whole-cluster fermentation and 100% new oak. A trademark style continued until 1999, the estate remains one of the most sought-after, distinctive sources of Burgundy.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-97)Medium deep purple. The nose is sombre, deep and backward. This has a huge wealth of fruit on the palate, especially at the front, very primary fruit. It does extend through very nicely but the second half of the palate is yet to fill out, as I think it will. |

Wine Advocate (94+)The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing brilliantly from bottle, bursting from the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, cassis, orange rind, spices, black truffle, espresso roast and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and mouthfilling, with a layered and nicely concentrated core, ripe tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long and expansive finish. |

Wine Advocate (94+)Dujac's 2017 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is more reserved that the Clos Saint-Denis, unwinding in the glass with scents of red berries, plums, orange rind, cinnamon, peonies and sweet soil tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, serious and layered, with muscular structure, lively acids and a long, perfumed finish. While this remains a comparatively accessible, finesse-driven Clos de la Roche, at least a decade's patience will be required to see this begin to realize its potential. |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2017 Echezeaux Grand Cru is also showing very well, having gained in depth and precision in the year since I last tasted it. Opening in the glass with aromas of red berries, cherries, orange rind, sweet soil tones, spices and peonies, it's medium to full-bodied, with a broader, more textural attack than the Malconsorts, underpinned by similarly powdery tannins and lively acids. This looks to be a longer-haul proposition than I had imagined, and at least a modicum of patience will be in order. |

Vinous (94)The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru is showing a little reduction on the nose; there’s some charry oak here, not quite as clean as its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine balance and finer tannins than Taupenot-Merme's La Riotte. This shows impressive delineation and elegance toward the finish, which is persistent and satisfying. An excellent Morey-Saint-Denis. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. |

Wine Advocate (94)Both more concentrated and more introverted than the preceding Beaux Monts, Dujac's 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts opens in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, plums, orange rind, smoked duck and peonies. On the palate, it's full-bodied, supple and elegantly muscular, with fine depth at the core, powdery tannins and mouthwatering acids, concluding with a perfumed finish. |
