La Pousse d'Or
Domaine de la Pousse d’Or has an imposing property near Volnay, in the Cote de Beaune. They also have vines in Pommard and Santenay. Since its foundation in 1964 it has been a pioneering estate. In 1997 it was acquired by Patrick Landanger who invested heavily in this spirit, getting the best of his terroir.

Burghound (94)The ripe and ultra-fresh aromas are from the darker side of the fruit spectrum while including plenty of spice, warm earth, menthol and plenty of sauvage character. There is both fine detail and a beguiling texture to the equally broad-shouldered and even more mineral-inflected flavors that possess even better complexity on the balanced and hugely long finish. Unusually, this appears to be just a bit less structured than the Bressandes and should also be approachable on the younger side if that's your preference. |

Burghound (92-94)There is enough reduction present to render the nose difficult to assess today. Otherwise there is a slightly finer mouth feel to the sleek, intense and sappy flavors that possess a highly polished and seductive mouth feel while brimming with minerality on the firm and youthfully austere finale. Like the Bousse d'Or this is going to require at least some patience and ultimately reward 12 to 15 years of cellar time. |

Burghound (91-94)Moderate amounts of wood and menthol elements frame the prominently ripe aromas of black pinot fruit liqueur aromas that are trimmed in an abundance of pretty spice nuances. The opulently, even lavishly rich medium weight flavors saturate the palate with sappy dry extract which also serves to buffer the more evidently mineral-inflected finish that is both firm and youthfully austere. Patience definitely required here. |

Vinous (90-92)Dark red-ruby. Riper and more expressive on the nose than the Feusselottes but still with a medicinal aspect to its aromas of black cherry and licorice. Denser and finer-grained on the palate, showing a note of redcurrant and an element of mineral lift. The medicinal quality repeats on the back end, but the tannins are rich and smooth. This wine is fatter than the Feusselottes; it's usually the other way around at this early stage. |

Vinous (92)The 2016 Pommard Les Jarollières 1er Cru has a clean and pure bouquet with black cherries, raspberry coulis and light cassis scents. The oak here is evident but nicely proportioned against the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple blackberry and raspberry notes, just a tad on the oaky side although that will ultimately be subsumed and there is commendable harmony and length on the finish. This is very promising and ranks highly against its peers. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. |

Wine Advocate (90-92)The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets, which is made from whole bunch fruit, has a clean and fresh, very pure bouquet that neatly disguises the stem addition. The palate is grippy, very tannic, masculine with a grainy texture, hints of bell pepper towards the huge finish that needs more flesh to balance those stems. Still, it is balanced and I am intrigued to see how this will age - this has complexity and a sense of intrigue. |

Vinous (91-93)(vinified with 30% whole clusters and aged in 30% new oak; Landanger admitted to a little too much pigeage with this wine): Bright dark ruby, deeper in color than the amphora version. Totally different on the nose, where one is immediately aware of a bitter chocolate note from the oak. Then sweeter and more pliant in the mouth, with flavors of black cherry, violet and licorice. More complex and long on the aftertaste, offering an intriguing suggestion of wildness. The tannins here are serious, even a bit youthfully aggressive, and yet this sample makes the amphora version seem a bit frozen in its youth. |
