Vinous (89-91)

The 2020 Aloxe-Corton Les Fournières 1er Cru is ripe and juicy on the nose: strawberry and raspberry, the oak here more pronounced compared to the Les Vercots. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, saturated tannins and again, here, I find the new oak more pronounced and perhaps just detracting a little from its delineation and mineralité on the finish. Yet once that is fully subsumed, this could turn into quite a substantial Aloxe-Corton.

Vinous (89-91)

The 2020 Aloxe-Corton Clos de Chapitre 1er Cru has an elegant nose that needed a little coaxing, a mixture of blueberry and black cherry fruit, quite sensual though not powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, taut and fresh, a touch of acidity with an cracked black pepper note that perks up the finish. Drink this over the next 12 to 15 years.

Vinous (90-92)

(this site features barely a foot of dark soil over limestone and rock; entirely destemmed): Dark red-ruby. Fresh, subtle aromas of smoky black cherry, spices and sexy earth tones. A supple, juicy midweight, with nicely focused berry and cherry fruit flavors accented by spices. Ripe tannins spread out to dust the palate on the firm but sweet back end. These vines escaped the frost in 2016.
