Vinous - Neal Martin (92)The 2015 Branas Grand Poujeaux has a gorgeous, quite plush nose with fine definition: black cherry, mulberry and cedar, very focused. The palate feels rounded on the entry and reassuringly dense. The acidity is certainly well judged and it delivers a lovely saline finish. Excellent. Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2017 Branas Grand Poujeaux has quite a high-toned and more ostentatious nose compared to previous bottles with exuberant blue and black cherry fruit, hints of mocha coming through with time. The palate is fleshy and ripe, velvety smooth with a caressing, texture. Pure red fruit laced with white pepper and clove, this gently fans out on the finish. This appears to be meliorating in bottle - one to watch. Tasted at the Branas Grand Poujeaux vertical at the château. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2000 Brane-Cantenac is a blend of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. It has a really wonderful bouquet that is coming into its own: potent with black truffle and gravel infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline tang on the entry. It is not a powerful or huge wine, but there is impressive length here and genuine complexity on the finish, with black truffle, cedar and tobacco notes vying for attention. Henri Lurton oversaw a really quite fabulous, almost aristocratic Brane-Cantenac in this millennial year. Tasted April 2015. |

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (98)The years when Brane was starting to really come sharply into focus, and this is easily one of the best 2009s in the Margaux appellation, and great value in comparison to some of the biggest names. One for serious Bordeaux lovers, just super competent and impressive winemaking. You get pretty much 90% of what you need to know on the aromatics alone, concentrated cassis, a ton of depth, with fruit, acidity and tannins all perfectly in balance, so juicy and drinkable, concentrated and enjoyable. Decades ahead of it. 70% new oak for ageing, harvest September 22 to October 9. |
