Vinous (94)The 2017 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is slightly pale in hue and has a rather slight bouquet at first, offering fresh green apple and wet limestone aromas. I would just like more intensity, and indeed, that does develop with 10–15 minutes’ aeration. The palate is well balanced, quite saline and sappy, showing a strong marine influence, with oyster shell and crustaceans on the finish. Very fine and complex. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)The 2023 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a fairly tight bouquet with apricot, peach skin and light waxy scents. This takes time to open in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a slightly tangy, marmalade-tinged opening, fine depth and a lovely pithy core of fruit. Judiciously spiced toward the finish, this is a very commendable BBM to enjoy over 15 to 20 years. |

It has a more composed and complex bouquet compared to others in this flight, with a little more crushed stone, blood oranges and light quince aromas developing in the glass. Impressive delineation and the oak is seamlessly integrated. The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity, just a dab of sour lemon and orange rind, quite peppery in style with a bravura finish. Much better than others in this flight, this is well worth hunting down. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |
