Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)
One of the more overt reds of the vintage, the 2014 Gazin Rocquencourt is plump, juicy and expressive. Super-ripe red cherry, pomegranate, spice, new leather and rose petal give the wine its dark, succulent personality and soft contours. Smoke, sweet floral notes and grilled herbs add attractive aromatic top notes, but in 2014, Gazin is all about fruit intensity and suppleness. This is an especially racy, voluptuous Pessac-Leognan that is ready to deliver tons of pleasure with minimal cellaring. It is not particularly complex, but it offers striking upfront sexiness. In 2014 the blend is equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This is a terrific showing from the Bonnie family and consulting winemaker Michel Rolland. Tasted three times.Inc. TAX€383.76 -

(12x75cl) 1990Discover the legacy of the exquisite Gilette 1990, a sultry French dessert wine for true connoisseurs. As a product of the famous Gilette winery situated in the Sauternes region of Bordeaux, this exceptional vintage is a testament to the masterful blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Crafted in a uniquely remote microclimate, Gilette 1990 modelled a classic, alluring taste profile by allowing the noble rot, an organically occurring fungi, to concentrate the sugars in the grapes. The result is an opulent, rich wine, revealing luscious peach, honey, and candied citrus notes, harmonised with a tantalising, endless finish.
With almost three decades of maturation, Gilette 1990 maintains impressively high scores in eminent wine publications, earning its status as a beloved icon within the fine wine industry. (6x75cl) 2011Wine Advocate (90)
This experimental, concentrated, 100% Merlot from a vineyard planted with 10,000 vines per hectare, is treated like a pampered child in its viticulture, fermentation and upbringing in barrel. Made by the Despagne family, this luxury cuvee has been a brilliant success in just about every vintage they have released to date. The 2011 is a big, robust effort whose exuberant tannins, which are not fully integrated, suggest caution may be needed. Loaded with sweet, rich, chocolaty berry fruit intermixed with graphite and vanilla notes, it still reveals some new oak, so some additional time in the bottle is warranted. It is hard to believe that a wine that carries a Bordeaux appellation exhibits the courage and visionary zeal needed to produce something like this. This offering should drink well for a decade, but the tannins need to be better integrated for it to fully merit an outstanding score.Inc. TAX€280.54 -

Soft and a touch earth on the attack but pulls itself together to show firmly in-control tannins. There is a natural austerity offset by a clear punch of redcurrant, raspberry and autumnal fruits. Good freshness, softened by smoked cedar on the finish. Reminds me of an early stage 2011, and this wine in 2017 seems set to age just as gracefully in the end.Inc. TAX€692.66
