Wine Advocate (83)The 1985 Boyd-Cantenac exhibits good ruby color and has a sweet, tasty, plummy fruitiness, medium body, low acidity, and a dull finish. It is good, but not exciting. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 3/89. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (95)The 2001 Haut-Brion has a very refined bouquet of pure black cherries, wild strawberry, iodine and crushed violet scents. Hints of potpourri and incense emerge with time, but it does not quite slip into fifth gear. The palate is medium-bodied with Seville orange marmalade, tangy and lively, and expands gently toward the sensual Bing cherry and orange zest finish. Wonderful. 13.2° alcohol. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (97+)The 2001 Latour is magnificent. A huge, structured wine, the 2001 Latour boasts notable depth to match its vertical, towering structure and pure power. At nearly fifteen years of age, the 2001 remains deep, virile and imposing. With air, the 2001 is a approachable now, but ideally it needs at least a few more years in bottle. This is a superb showing by any measure. Frédéric Engerer adds that 2001 was the last vintage that was lightly filtered prior to bottling. |

Vinous (98+)The 1986 Chateau Margaux was even more emotionally moving. Still incredibly youthful, it showed incredible focus and depth, all backed up by considerable structure. As hard as it may seem to believe, on this night the 1986 appeared to still be some years away from peaking. It was striking in every way. |

Wine Spectator (93)Greatest wine ever made at this estate. A breathtaking wine to drink now, but please wait. Lots of fruit, spice and tomato character. Full-bodied and very velvety, with a long, flavorful finish. Now or later, it's hard to resist. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-92)Expressive aromas of grilled meat, black raspberry, spicy cherry, smoke and tobacco. Lovely sweetness in the mouth; fruit flavors are more red than black. This is generous for a '94, but the tannins are not as silky-smooth as those in the '95. Intriguing smoke and maple sugar flavor on the finish. |
