Aile d'Argent 2021 (6x75cl)
|
2021 |
Aile d'Argent 2021 (6x75cl) Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)Beautiful intensity and grip through the palate, this shows white pear, juicy citrus, and slate-filled salinity on the finish. Great stuff, with teasingly drawn out flavours, lift and tension, and hidden depths. Some frost meant the yields were lower than normal at 32hl/h. 15% malolactic fermentation to soften the acidities, with Sauvignon Gris vines included within the Sauvignon Blanc count, and no Muscadelle in the blend as the vines have now been uprooted, giving a slight break in style (for the better in my opinion). 3.25ph, 45% new barrels for ageing. First year with Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy as director from beginning to end of the growing season, after Philippe Dhaulluin's retirement.

Alcee 2016 (6x75cl)
In Bond: €153.00
|
2016 |
Alcee 2016 (6x75cl) Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2016 Alcée, the Castillon Côte de Bordeaux courtesy of Nicolas Thienpont, has an intense yet charming bouquet of brambly red fruit, black tea, cedar and crushed stone aromas. I appreciate the definition and focus here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, nicely focused and quite rigid at the moment, though there is satisfying fruit concentration. The lovely black-pepper- and allspice-infused finish is very appealing. This will require three or four years in bottle but should mature into a wine that will give two decades of drinking pleasure.

2017 |
Alcee 2017 (6x75cl) Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)The 2017 Alcée has turned out beautifully. Espresso, mocha, sweet red cherry, red plum, mint, cedar and spice give the 2017 very pretty aromatic brightness. Pliant and racy. This mid-weight Nicolas Thienpont's Côtes de Castillon has so much to offer. A touch of whole clusters adds nuance and vibrancy to this very pretty and expressive red. I would give it another year in bottle. There is plenty to look forward to, that is for sure. Tasted three times.

Alcee 2021 (6x75cl)
|
2021 |
Alcee 2021 (6x75cl) Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)The 2021 Alcée includes a new 4-hectare parcel en fermage in St-Genès-de-Castillon (clay over limestone), making 12.22 hectares in total. Cropped at 23.7hL/ha October 6–19, this has an open, expressive bouquet of dark cherries, bergamot and light sous-bois aromas, hints of pencil shavings emerging with aeration. The palate has a lovely juicy opening, fine acidity, rounded, supple red fruit and a harmonious, refined finish. This is a seductive Alcée in the making.

2019 |
Alter Ego de Palmer 2019 (6x75cl) Decanter (95)Gorgeous rich dark purple in the glass. Quite jammy and concentrated on the nose, heady and perfumed with a lovely delicate florality to it too. Great freshness on the palate, juicy but a dark blackcurrant and cherry fruit juice. Beautifully balanced with integrated tannins and oak. Well defined fruit, generous and quite abundant against softly grippy, velvety tannins that just give support to the overall frame. It's serious but with a lightness of touch and playfulness - energetic and lively but still with depth. A great Alter Ego and confident winemaking on show.

Alter Ego de Palmer 2020 (6x75cl) Jancis Robinson (17+)50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot. Cask sample.
Very much in the Alter Ego mould – lively, fruit-driven with that vineyard-fresh feel but with a little more structure than previous years. Pure and appetising but will age. (JL) 13.7%

Alter Ego de Palmer 2021 (12x37.5cl)
|
2021 |
Alter Ego de Palmer 2021 (12x37.5cl) Vinous (AG) (92-94)Palmer's 2021 Alter Ego is fabulous. Dense and rich in the glass, with positively explosive energy, the 2021 dazzles from start to finish. A rush of dark cherry, plum, spice, blood orange, menthol and licorice infuses the palate with tremendous intensity. Hints of rose petal and pomegranate appear later to round things out. The 2021 possesses tremendous textural richness that is evident from the very first taste. The aromatics alone are especially present today.
