The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a little more "gourmand" on the nose, cohering with time in the glass, loamy, almost peaty aromas emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-honed tannins. Lovely symmetry here, with a slight creaminess in texture towards the finish, where it feels very persistent. This is a lovely Charmes-Chambertin that should evolve wonderfully in bottle.

A fine red purple colour. A light reduction on the nose. There is quite powerful fruit for the vintage, allied to Cyprien’s refined style, slightly rougher tannins, whether an aspect of Gevrey or fractionally lighter maturity. Precision at the back, a fine intensity of fresh raspberry, and the requisite length. Drink from 2028-2034.

A more deeply pitched combination offers up notes of plum, wild dark cherry and plenty of earth. The succulent and solidly powerful medium-bodied flavors are more muscular though not nearly as refined, all wrapped in a detailed, dusty and moderately austere finale that isn’t quite as well-balanced.
