Americas

The North American wine producing reputation can largely be attributed to the global fame and success of Napa Valley and Sonoma County in the United States. Although technically ‘new world’, its wines have the same devoted fan base (and often first-growth prices) as many classic European wines. Free from the shackles of European winemaking law, one can find a variety of cooler climate Cabs, Merlots, Pinots, Chardonnays and Rieslings that will entice all wine lovers.

South America is an exciting new melting pot of styles and flavours with a range of soils types and altitudes – taking international varietals and finishing with French winemaking techniques, or in the case of Argentinian Malbec, adopting a largely unloved grape and making it their own.

Introducing the exquisite Col Solare Red Wine 1998, an epitome of the synergy between two wine legends, Marchesi Antinori and Chateau Ste. Michelle. This outstanding wine hails from the famed Red Mountain region in Washington, USA, a terroir renowned for producing world-class Bordeaux blends. Col Solare Red Wine 1998 is a complex blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. These hand-picked grapes are carefully sorted, crushed, fermented and matured in French oak barrels to create a concentrated and full-bodied wine.

Upon serving, the rich ruby hue of the Col Solare Red Wine 1998, coupled with its aromatic medley of dark fruits, spices and chocolate unfolds gracefully in the glass. On the palate, expect a harmonious blend of ripe blackberries, currants and a hint of mint, with a generous touch of toasty oak. Graceful tannins and a persistent finish make the Col Solare Red Wine 1998 a stellar choice for the discerning collector or connoisseur.

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (92-94)

Saturated ruby. Roasted black raspberry, maple syrup and shoe polish on the nose. Very smooth, rich and lush; amazingly full and long for the vintage. Tannins are substantial but even and sweet. Most Napa wineries couldn't produce a wine like this even in a great year.

Wine Advocate (95)

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the debut vintage of La Muse is composed of fruit from Sonoma (62%) and Napa (38%) vineyards. It appears to have reached full maturity, but it possesses the density and richness to last another 10-15 years. From a challenging vintage, it reveals a dark plum/garnet color along with a full-bodied nose of coffee, fruitcake, underbrush, forest floor, mocha and chocolate. This outstanding effort is one of the top 1998s from northern California.
